What kind of network programming?
Entry level socket programming, or doing shared memory designs over interconnects?
>>61023972
i did a bit of entry level socket programming and set up a cool service that i use at home.
tell me about this shared memory design

I work with PCIe Non-Transparent Bridges. Basically, you have a bunch of adapter cards that reads PCIe transactions on the slot and sends it out on an external cable, and then it is converted back on the other side. Since the two systems use different address space, the NTB can be programmed to do a simple address translation (basically, when a PCIe transaction is forwarded across it, it just looks up in a table and replaces the address). This means that one system can map (parts of) a remote address space into its own.
Can you guys post some of your entry level socket programming, just out of curiosity

Google OP's image, it's actually a fairly decent intro to socket programming.

sounds really cool, but above my level currently.
will beej's guide to unix IPC be a good jumping off point when i'm prepared?

Beej's guides are quite good for learning fundamentals, but beyond those you need to go a bit deeper. I recommend reading Computer Networks by Andrew Tanenbaum as the next logical step.

I really enjoyed Beej's guide to socket programming.
