This thread is for the discussion of NyaaPantsu (pantsu.cat), a free (FOSS) torrent indexer, and other nyaa alternatives.
The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement in golang that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.

>Why is Pantsu down/error 502?
Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.

Friendly reminder that nyaa.si is so much better that these threads aren't needed anymore.
The previous one just sank to abyss at puny 60 posts without generous .si shills keeping it afloat.
>>
And we're back.

Go away >>61020839 with your stinky bootstrap smell.
>>
nyaa.si is free as in freedom
>>
The header is now narrower than before
The nickname and avatar aren't pinned to a specific space like they were before, making it's position change heavily depending on translation
There is no nickname character limit in the header anymore, making long nicknames force the boxes to go to the available space (overlapping on the left part of the header). This results in the fap button being hard to click for 7 to 11 characters long nicknames, and it being unclickeable for 12+ characters long nicknames
The user menu also moved for some reason???? Making it hide the download count and the upload date of the first three torrents, where in the past it only hid the upload date. It's also much more unaligned with the nickname and avatar than it was before
There now is an ugly padding in the columns which means there is less space for torrent names per line
Flags look very out of place as they move the category picture further to the left making it completely misaligned with the other ones
>>

torrent stat scraping does not work on torrent page but it does in torrent list
when editing or creating a torrent, you are forced to select a torrent language (fixed in the code)
when the device is 1728px large or lower, the header is pinned to the very left and very right side of the screen (logo & text on left, search & nickname / avatar on right) (fixed in the code)

anything else?

>404 page has a new image now instead of this
Why did you change it kipukun!
>>
>>61024643
Because he's a hack
The problem with the 404 vector image is that it wasn't pinned to the bottom (so it would cut at renge's skirt) and as such would look off, and you can't pin it at the bottom because there's a footer in there
So he removed the vector altogether and slapped an image in there
Should've made it as a background-image so that it could be pinned at the bottom and the footer would've been at the top of the page as there wouldn't be any content to make it go at the bottom

Honestly though, I'm really sorry to say this but kipukun has some really shitty design senses. The themes were made by /g/anon and every change he tries to do to it was retarded and unliked by multiple people. Every other new design or UI change decided by him is unlikable too. They're either ugly design choices or unintuitive UI navigation with no thought put into it. Sorry but it's really horrible.

He's just learning. No one would expect a good design on an educational project site.

Currently the only recent outage was in the Ukraine reverse proxy and it was only for about 5 minutes, if you get 502 errors its most likely main server overload, however whenever you get them please post which ip you are connecting to so i can investigate.
Recently i enabled GEOIP DNS so it connects to the closest reverse proxy, since lots of people might come from the same place at the same time it might temporarily overload some of the reverse proxy's.

I already tried to fix this mess of a header but i know fuckall about css and i don't understand what was the goal of all the changes so i wasn't able to fix anything
I don't even know why these header changes were made in the first place, two threads ago you said the changes were to make it wider so that text from translations would always be 100% visible and yet the header ended not only being broken and much uglier, but also even NARROWER than before so translations are even less visible than before
This new header is worse at everything than the previous one, it's objectively worse in any point. I keep spamming that idiot ewhal to fucking rollback it already but he is even more of a lazy blob than you are so he's not doing anything
Oh right, he did make a change yesterday to make the username length limit kick back in the header: long usernames would make boxes overlap the Fap links and the text before that even for longer ones. Guess what it didn't fix?

>the header ended not only being broken and much uglier, but also even NARROWER than before so translations are even less visible than before
True, false, false, false. What browser and languages have you tested with?

>What you mean is "I'm angrier about this header because my language fit fine in the old one but my username doesn't fit in the new one".
Stop trying to dismiss the problem i have brought up because you disagree with them.
For starters, the previous header didn't show long text in the boxes, and the current one doesn't have addressed this issue: http://0x0.st/UXr.png . No improvement on this point.
The previous header didn't break the Fap link with long usernames, now it does: http://0x0.st/UHU.png . Regression on this point.

Ok, I see the problem now. In typical pantsu fashion, their fix breaks horribly and unexplainably in certain conditions they should have tested. In this case it's the canvas size.

Go into responsive design mode, and choose something like 1280x600. You should see what I see: the header fills up the page's size and there's plenty of room for even the longer locales.

Then if I choose a meme-tier resolution like 1920x900, I see what you see: the header somehow collapses onto itself again and the drop-down list hides the sukebei link, just the same as with the old header.

So, you're totally still a fag, but you were justified in claiming that the new header is worse than the old one in every area.

o-okay?

Also something strange that i noticed: 1920x1080p fullscreen, the header is non-wide (and narrower than the previous one). When i turn it into windowed however, even with the same length, it turns into the wide one

like really what the fuck, changing <item> to <entry> back to <item>, putting the url to the link in an href tag and then removing it next week, adding the torrent: namespace with some finally useful metadata and removing it, changing the date to from <pubdate> to <updated> to <pubDate>, making pubDate some random nonstandard timestamp so i had to spend a whole extra 20 seconds doing a customer parser, how will you annoy me next week with your random changes

https://status.pantsu.cat/ Added Reverse Proxy's
>>
>>61061159
I was dealing with 502 errors on my server not long ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if the problem was caused by a very similar concept here as well. What caused it for me was the php module being overloaded on backend server, and every time that happened the backend server terminated connection to the nginx reverse proxy resulting in a 502 error.
I solved it by upgrading PHP configuration to a higher performance mod_fcgid based one and all the 502 errors are gone.

I would assume that the actual backend application here is getting overloaded and terminating connection to the reverse proxy rather than there being anything wrong with the proxies themselves. You may need to increase the performance of the backend or use load balancing with multiple backend servers to solve this.

Nginx is pretty damn bulletproof when it comes to proxy performance.

>>61061365
We will actually be upgrading the server soon so we will see if its better after that. I'll be hosting it myself so ill be able to upgrade the hardware if its needed.
>>
>>61063438
It might not be hardware bottleneck at all. In my case I had 24 CPU threads mostly idle and a good 20GB of RAM to spare, it was a software bottleneck. It couldn't handle the number of concurrent requests and I needed additional PHP threads running to deal with them. Fcgid automatically launches additional fastcgi threads if there are more than 1 concurrent requests and closes the threads when there aren't and that's what eliminated bottleneck for me.

Not to say it can't be the hardware that is inadequate, but it's very possible that it's a software bottleneck. The behaviour is certainly more like a software bottleneck.

Worked for me just now. Nice to see you're trying to deflect, though. That's how I know you have no argument. Whether pantsu is down or not right now is completely irrelevant, because the site that works according to you is down. 100% down, it's not even in question. And it's not down because there is something wrong with it, it's down just because the owner of it felt like taking it down for some nebulous reasons. Which is something he'll no doubt continue to do.
>>

>>

>>
>>61072833
What does it matter when the site is pretty much finished?
>>
>>61072911
contributons and fixes slowed down to a crawl
>>
>>61072833
But I'm still here.
It's just that PantsuDev hasn't been as active as he used to be.
>>
>>61073042
He is currently working on the site.
Also i can be here pretty much all day in case the site goes down so although downtimes have been quite rare now i can still take care of it quickly.
>>
>>61073101
What's the limiting factor for the file lists? Lack of torrents or difficulties in indexing them? Also, how is the file size search going?
>>
>>61073042
Don't worry, he will share your feelings one day.

>>
>>61074147
No, not for individual files.
>>61074291
>the ones that aren't being seeded anymore

daily reminder that if you're fluent in any language pantsu supports, it would be great if you were to go through your respective language file and try to downsize the translation to the same size as it's english counterpart, to ease development. thanks!
>>
>>61080806
Or you could just get rid of all the translations.

which is a retarded idea given every single string on the site is wrapped in a translation function
>>
>>61080806
>swedish translation
completely useless, they're usually very good but nobody uses them since everyone speaks english anyway
>>
Improvement suggestion: use selected translation language to filter out all torrents not marked with it.
>>
>>61081949
That shit better be optional.
