I have been a Windows user my whole life.

pick one
Gentoo

If you want freedumbs try trisquel if you want your wifi drivers to work try ubuntu with cinnamon.
>>61008381
Debian or Trisquel.

definitely Ubuntu. don't listen to the trolls. /thread
>>61008381
ubuntu

>ZorinOS Lite / ZorinOS Core
>ChaletOS
>Ubuntu GNOME / Kubuntu
>Linux Lite
>openSUSE KDE / GeckoOS KDE
Pick any. See what UI you'd like by default. I mostly recommend Ubuntu based distros as a first pick because they have the most pre-compiled software and a newcomer-friendly community. But openSUSE is very professional and better if you're a poweruser.
>>61008381
Start with Linux Mint. It's considered beginner's friendly a has large user base, according to Distrowatch. Don't forget to read insightful articles of its founder, Clément Lefèbvre (clem).

Implying you're not a troll...
Kali
>>61008593
>distrowatch
Distrowatch only shows how many clicks a distro had. It doesn't in any way suggest a large userbase but only an interest. Also the reason SolusOS got in the top 10 was because Kevin botted the site. You can basically reset your network, get a new IP, open Solus on dw, get it +1 view and repeat until it gets at least 20-50. It's a flawed system of comparison.
Also Cinnamon is a terrible DE. It doesn't have a reason to exist when KDE and XFCE are simply better and look more windows-like.
ubuntu
kubuntu
xubuntu and so on
antergos
mint
fedora
>>61008606
>troll
oops should have also mentioned Kubuntu, Lubuntu, or Xubuntu. Unity DE is an acquired taste.

though it's easy to add other desktops from plain old unity ubuntu so you can try them all OP
>>61008381
Antergos
Ubuntu's boring. Use Antergos instead.
ubuntu
>>61008381
Debian is fucked up, didnt even trief gentoo, ended up with linux mint
>>61008422
Does mate have the same wifi functionality as regulat ubuntu?
T. Someone who has mate on his secondary hdd but is not useful at all because he only has a wifi dongle and cant be bothered to run an ethernet cable
Is Debian good for a beginner?
>>61008381
Stick to windows, because you obviously can't fucking google.
>>61009453
It is not as easy and straight forward to use as Ubuntu but most of it is significantly smoother then arch/gentoo etc.
If you have absolutely no Idea what you are doing Ubuntu is probably a decent choice, if you know a bit about configuring stuff, command line things, files system etc. then Debian is also completely fine.
>>61008381
Xubuntu, but don't let the OS itself turn you off from GNU/Linux. Ubuntu is a steaming pile of shit. Just get used to XFCE and apt. Then you should move onto Debian.
Linux mint with cinnamon desktop environment.
>>61010070
You are right there, thats why it is better to use as a beginner distro.
The probability of everything werking is significantly higher if you are not restricting yourself to a specific kind of software.
Of course if you take a strong stance on free software, debian is clearly the better choice.
>>61010102
>strong stance on free software
op didn't clarify whether he was autistic
>>61010130
Then I wold have recommended Arch with i3 and anime girls.
>>61010047
>Mint
Worthless fork
>Cinnamon
KDE Plasma and GNOME are superior on medium and high-end systems, XFCE is superior on weaker systems.
>>61010102
I started with arch. it wasnt hard. It worked. I had never owned a computer before, I had never used anything but windows/mac for anything serious.
do whatever. Its not hard to learn fast.
