>>
Installing plasma-desktop via Synaptic, and switching to kwin as window manager on startup, and using Dolphin instead of Thunar.
>>
chopped it down to a 10 second boot and a very minimal xfce setup that only uses 256 mb of ram on idle

I use Debian with XFCE. I don't like Ubuntu because it has stability problems and tries to hold my hand too much.

On my laptop xubuntu uses 203mb after removing bluetooth/auto-updates from startup. Nothing else changed.

Why is this piece of shit so broken?
On two computers it can't even sleep without a root password, I leave my laptop and then come back to it still on with an error and a password prompt.
Maybe the reason I want my computer to sleep is because I'm not around to type anything into it, you fucking stupid OS.

moved from Xubuntu to arch only recently, it was a rough ride tried KDE, GNOME, Sway, and waycooler until I finally settled with XFCE+i3wm because every single one had some annoying issues that make screen tearing look tame in comparison.
Works out well on my machine as a VM host for GPU passthrough since it is fairly light.
