It's just going to be something along the lines of the NES classic. They've done those before, I remember using one almost 15 years ago.

There's a whole fucking board for this shit, and it's not /g/. Fuck right off.

I really want to believe OP but we need to be realistic. Atari simply does not have the money to create something to compete with the current consoles.
This could be some sort of steambox + retro console maybe but I don't think there's much more to it.

Your average /v/ermin is too young to know what atari even is.

There is an email button for devs though, so I'm not sure if they're asking for people to help port or remaster their old games, or straight up make new ones for a brand new console.
An Atari exec also stated it's hardware is heavily PC based, so it seems that they're trying to get as many people to develop for it as possible.
Again, all speculation at this point, would be cool to see them come back and do well also.
Negroes this ain't 1905 anymore you can't just launch a console against sony,ms,nintendo, and steam.
How will they secure good competitive hardware and who will develop the OS and network for it?

That's the biggest problem I see, competing with the massive giants in the market already.
Unless they introduce new features that is genuinely impossible to do on other consoles, it looks like it's just anohter Ouya.

Atari's got the brand name backing them though and is coming out with a real console, Ouya was just some dumb cellphone in a little box.
Atari is just a brand name bought be Infogrames now they just renamed themselves Atari. It is not the American Atari that Steve Jobs and Woz worked for back in in the day.

This. Infogrames is a scumsucking hive, wearing the skin cut from the dead Atari's face like a mask and asking if you want to play Solaris.
