Everyone who doesn't think this is the only answer is a CIA nigger
Debian or CentOS.
those are the two most popular for servers from what I've seen.

Ubuntu Server

one of these and you're fine
>>60969942
The new Debian version 9, Stretch, came out yesterday. This is the time to install it, as it's the newest old you're going to get for a while.
>>60970056

Perfect mix of autism and productivity. Always get shit done when using Fedora.

Debian and its maintainers should be gased
>>60970361
Thought really hard about fedora but said fuck it and got debian
>>60970361
Yeah, no, I don't like having to reinstall my server every 9 months, I'm good with 5 years for LTS/Debian with security backports
> But my yum/rpm/dnf
Use CentOS/RHEL/Scientific then.
Arch, Ubuntu (non LTS), Fedora, Debian Stretch, are all great for desktops, where the latest and greatest is the name of the game, but stability is not their strong suit.
>>60969969
whats wrong with yum? fine then, fedora
>>60970361
I'm going to second this. Fedora is the only distribution to take free software seriously, while also realising not shipping w/wifi drivers is autistic as fuck.
>>60970419
Debian ships with no nonfree software by default, you have to enable it in the repos.
>>60970415
> not realising Fedora recently added support for updating between versions *in gui*
>>60970429
Did you miss the part where I mentioned wifi drivers.
>>60970415
>reinstall server
what? its 2017 dude:
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh
>>60970431
So you run X on your servers? Good to know you put those extra CPU cycles to work.
Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, fuck even CentOS *can* be upgraded. But put a complext configuration on there and get back to me when nothing breaks and you're not left with cruft.
Most of my shit is running on ephemeral containers anyway
>>60970440
Did you miss where I mentioned Debian ships with no nonfree by default? You have to download the unofficial nonfree CD to have nonfree wifi in your install environment.

Debian is very comfy for me. Will recommend.
>>60970460
I just realised this was a server-specific thread. Sorry for wasting your time desu.
I'd go with Debian for a server.
