ITT: We post things Lincucks are incapable of doing
what
Sorry, mobileposting and away from my linux. Arent it is file managers fault, not the linux kernel? I usualy use krusader for file managment, but judjing from image preview in file open dialogs of software, the re shoud be a file manager that does image previews.
Why op?

Bitwig is better. But yeah, VSTs and other stuff is still better on Windoze.

Well you could argue you can run it on Wine.

I replied to my own comment expecting that argument. I run it on Windows. Plus even if you can run it on Wine, it seems the audio stack in Linux is pretty bad, plus I don't know if VST's work at all.

>An audio system that makes sense
PulseAudio: select your audio stream, do whatever you want with it. Try doing the following on Windows:
1. Open three audio streams on a laptop simultaneously
2. Have the first play on your laptop speakers
3. Have the second play on your headphones
4. Have the third play on a connected bluetooth speaker
Checkmate.
CAN'T do:

The part where your opinion on the subject is relevant to whether the software is able to fulfill said tasks.

I'm "peeking" into the catalog link without actually opening it. This can be done with files, links, and all kinds of things. It basically opens a small window showing you what's "inside" what you're clicking on... but designed to not disrupt your current window, and closes itself as soon as you click anywhere on the screen.
(I have mine toggled to work when I press harder on the trackpad than a standard click, for example)

If it works out of the box, provides an intuitive way to manipulate audio streams and devices and is supported by every single program written in the last decade, then what else is it other than good?
What's more, linking audio streams to devices on Windows isn't easy, it's literally impossible. Only since Win10 could you select which one audio device should be used. That only applies to all sounds coming from your computer, not for separate streams.
If you think that installing a 800mb proprietary program by your sound card manufacturer is easier than using Pulse, then you're probably qualified enough to install Gentoo, and you should.

Oh, it's that OSX feature. It always confused me when I jumped over to the local Apple store to give the new tech a spin.
The feature would be rather useful as long as it isn't too resource-intensive. I admit I've only seen simpler preview features when you hover over a file. Extending this feature to web links would be rad.
HOWEVER, is it secure though? What happens when you accidentally preview a malware link that specifically targets this feature on Mac?
Checkmate, Linfats
>>60969866
I assume it is the same as clicking the link. Why would it be any different?
>>60968502
last time I tried to do anything vaguely audio production related under Wine, latency was sky high (like, over 300ms in Renoise and there was some stupid timing bug in Wine making Famitracker's latency beyond ridiculous)
but that was years ago and Pulse was fucking awful at the time since it was new and everyone adopted it for some reason despite things working perfectly fine before
dunno how it is these days
might still be pretty bad, almost certainly too bad to do stuff live, but would be acceptable for any non-realtime work

What the fuck does this add? This isn't 1998 anymore. We have image viewers that load in under 100 ms. Just double click the image and use Irfanview. You've already wasted more time mousing to image preview than you saved by not loading an external image viewer, even the crappy "Photos" app.
>>60968817
Do what? Waste a significant amount of vertical real estate with a dock that's less efficient for apps with multiple windows than either Windows or most Linux DEs? Lag like hell on anything but the past 2 model year machines?

problem, according to them, is that every menu looks different, different font, colors, borders and so on. the thing is they only care about how something looks rather than what it does. i though linux users are all about functionality rather than looks since every distro looks like shit.
