I looked into doing that to my T500 a while back, 1280x800 is kinda too small. Then I got lost and confused looking for model numbers of bare screens and trying to determine if they'd work. I was probably handicapped by not wanting to deal with ebay. and by having killed my old Asus laptop swapping the screen.

I am poor and Thinkpads are rare here.

I've upgraded to the T400 for next to nothing. I loved the X series, but now with more powerful smartphones I simply don't feel the need for an ultraportable and the T series' expandability and larger screen makes a big difference.

It's not Gloss it's Glass.
That's a huge difference, Glossy coatings are a cancer that can't be cured.
Glass has the same visibility issues from the outset, but it can be fixed with a matte screen film.

Glass + Matte Film is the most versatile solution.
Matte coating is fine, but it's just as stupid as soldered ram.
Glossy coatings and the people who apply them should be crucified though.

Honestly this. There was absolutely nothing missing in that device, it was perfect. Don't really get why Apple introduced the Air-line just to make the Pro-line thinner anyway. Next iteration was still okay I guess, but the current one is a disaster.
