Is it possible to configure an OS so that it's only operable while it has a USB drive plugged in with an extremely long key file on it? Something that can be removed when walking away from a machine and reinserted to resume the session would be ideal.

Would this provide any significant security benefits?

The cheapest 65" IPS monitors I can find around my area are (ordered by cheapness):
* Samsung DM65E (TN panel)
* LG 65SE3B
* LG 65SE3KB
* Benq ST650K
* Philips BDL6520EL

Can't really call myself a hardcore gamer or anything, but are any of these worth it or should I go the meme botnet tier and just buy a 4K SmartTV?

It's a screen for the living room I'm looking for.

For less monies I can get a 4K SmartTV:

I haven't updated my gentoo laptop in 98 days because I got preoccupied with something else. Now when I update it I get so many fucking errors and cross dependencies and whatnot. How come audio levels for different video files vary so much? Like sometimes for one movie I'll have to crank my amp a good portion of the way to max to get a good volume, while another would sound fine at 10-20% Surely it would be easier to encode this stuff around some average volume level that everyone can agree is good wouldn't it? Or is it a problem of my setup not decoding it properly, and it actually should be more even than it is?

I need a youtube script/add-on (FF) which:

1)Auto-stops playback (but not buffering) on all tabs apart from the tab that is in focus.
2)Adjust video size based on playback quality.

I've tried quite a few popular add-ons and scripts but none seem to offer what I need.

For a long time now I've been putting off eyefinity because of one simple reason; Display Port adapters, and the fact that since they're niche, I'm third world, imports are locked down and merchants are crafty, they cost ludicrous amounts of money. Like, over a hundred US dollars.

That is, until I saw this (https://support.amd.com/en-us/search/faq/170) FAQ page from AMD. Apparently, my R9 270X should support running off 2 DVI monitors and 1 HDMI monitor.

I've got one monitor on HDMI, one DVI, and one running off my iGPU's VGA connection. I've got another DVI monitor (my sister's currently using it), but no extra DVI cable. Running the third monitor off the 270X using a DVI to VGA adapter doesn't work, as expected.

So, I should in theory be able to just swap a monitor with my sister (she's on VGA anyways, and they're both shitty TN garbage), buy a DVI cable, and lo and behold, Eyefinity. What I want to know, however, is what the fuck that "monitors on DVI connection must be identical" means. Do they need to be the same resolution and refresh rate? Do they need to be the exact same model? I can't find any answers online, so I come to you all.

Thanks in advance.

What is happening here? I'm making a game that uses socket.io and webgl. It usually runs at 120hz, but sometimes frames take 16ms or 24ms. What's strange is the inspector seems to show nothing happening during that time. At the start of the frame it seems to be performing game logic and rendering, then towards the end, socket.io events are being handled.

I might not get answers here but fuck it, I'm desperate.

I keep getting pop ups for websites like Tradeexchange and Popcash on my browser (I know, too much porn) but the problem is that my computer doesn't detect any malware or adware. I have Malware Bytes premium so it blocks all pop ups but they're so fucking annoying.
MalwareBytes doesn't detect anything
Hitman Pro doesn't detect anything
Norton doesn't detect anything
AdwareCleaner doesn't detect anything.
I don't know what to do. I've checked all the programs installed and they all seem legitimate. The worst part is that these Adware popups are Outgoing requests.
I think I might have a router malware but I don't know how to get rid of it. I've tried everything and they still pop up. They used to pop up on my old computer and now they pop up on my new computer. Same websites too.
I desperately need help.

They all come from Chrome. Not sure about Firefox. They used to only come out when I opened incognito mode but now they come out when I use normal windows. I'm pretty sure I got the adware by using chrome on my phone since that doesn't have any form of adblock.
I've tried nuking Chrome by deleting everything possible and starting over but they still come up.

Backing up the stuff sitting on D:\ is easy as, some copy-paste stuff, but is there a way to backup the OS and installed programs? It was very difficult to install on this computer (Skylake fucks up the Win7 install, had to tamper with a couple of programs that I won't be able to get for free again, etc.), so if I can just store a backup of the entire partition or something in case of a drive failure, that would be great.

Basically want to be able to just plug the backup drive in and continue without having to re-install OS and programs.

Is there a good battery longevity app for phones?

I have an S6, but the screen cracked while I was playing air hockey so now it just sits on my desk (I replaced it with a Nexus 6 because it cost less than fixing the screen and turns out to be a much better phone).

What are some ideas to do with it? I've thought about using it as a seedbox (I have access to a number of wifi networks I have no association with) or making it into some kind of smart device for my apartment (I was going to use it to display content on my TV but then realized Samsung killed the HDMI over USB functionality). Any ideas would be welcome, and if you have resources on rooting it that'd be great; I haven't been able to find any (it's the Verizon edition on 6.0.1).

>Source? Battery on my old phone went to shit REALLY quick
http://www.androidauthority.com/leave-phone-plugged-overnight-703078/
You old phone was likely just a piece of shit in some way, or stupid old. There's literally no reason to worry about over/under charging with smartphones. That said, LiPo batteries do degrade with each charge cycle, but 10% isn't going to make a difference, and your battery is going to last years anyways. I bought a used Nexus 6 eight months ago and the battery will last a full day and a half before going empty. If you really want to baby your battery you'd have to keep it between like 50-80% constantly, which is more of a chore than its worth.

Do you have a radiator or something? All you need is some metal that connects your case to the earth. Usually the house itself is grounded, radiators and such included, so you can connect it to a radiator and the radiator would lead to ground. Depends on your house though.
I didn't mean break your floor, you can just dangle it out the window or something.

from what i've heard, once you're set in, sysadmin jobs are a lot easier

It depends. If you fear for xxxleethaxorzxxx attacks then it's better to backup your files to a different computer/server, so that attacker can't access your backups, assuming he has taken control of your computer.

But if hardware failure is your sole concern, then RAID 1 or 5 is acceptable (I think RAID 5 might be a bit unreliable tho, if you don't have many harddrives); (there may be other RAID variants that provides data loss prevention but I don't know what they are, wikipedia is your friend).

Also, if talking literally, copying a file to the same drive it is on is a backup, it may prevent data loss through bit rot or accidental removal.

Trying to upgrade my old facebook machine a little. The MOBO (Intel DG41WV) has two DDR3 slots and the manual says it's supports up to 4 gigs of RAM.

So I'm assuming that, if I plugged in more than 4 gigs, either my PC wouldn't post, or Windows will only see 4 gigs?

SO is there some wizardry that would help me force the MOBO to use >4 gigs of RAM?

>Don't laptops slow down over time?

Since the first thing when buying a laptop is installing a clean OS, software-related "slowing down" aka. bloat, shitware, fragmentation shouldn't be an issue.

Obsolescence related "slowing down" (applications demanding better and better hardware) can be delayed by upgrading RAM, upgrading the processor and replacing the internal hard disk with an SSD (or putting an SSD in the designated SSD slot if the notebook has one).

The way I'd do the main control loop would be:

Enable row 1 and switch on all 3 columns, start a for loop incrementing 0-255, when count reaches a brightness value for any of the three columns turn off, when for loop ends switch to next row and repeat. After all three rows done then do whatever calculation for calculating next brightness value, ideally keep computation time similar between loops.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

If you have multiple RAM modules, test them one by one to determine which is the broken. If it's under warranty, take it back to the store. If not, the trash awaits.

If you have only one RAM modules then you dun goofed, you need to get a new memory module.

PROTIP: with Linux you can blacklist areas of memory with a certain boot command line so if the errors are limited to one block of the RAM you can use gnu+linux till you get new working RAM.

apt autoremove should handle no longer depended on, automatically installed packages. Ones marked manual are generally ones you don't want to remove, because they are the ones you installed yourself.

Maybe what you mean by unnecessary is the ones installed as recommends or suggests? I don't know how to do that but there is probably some magic aptitude search that can do it. Beyond that you just have to use a bunch of fitters and offerings and then go through it manually.

Any im pretty sure you don't want to mark all installed packages as manual.

I'm looking to clone an internal hard drive to a larger external hard drive. What utilities on Windows are good for this?

Your computer will be really slow and you probably won't be able to handle 1080p video.

that's less than 2G, isn't it?

Are extended warranties worth it?

I'm planning to buy an XPS for 1.5k leaf bucks (down from 2k) and I'm pondering if I should get the 2-3 year warranty.

And yes, i do take care of my stuff very well especially for electronic devices. It's more of a question on dell's reliability on device longevity.

windows backup?

So my computer really hard crashed earlier, the screen went black and the sound bugged out until I hit the restart button. When it restarted it did the usual "Starting wangblows 7" stuff but then failed to load past that point, going to a black screen instead of the login screen. How fucked am I?

Just tried booting to Linux instead and I'm getting the same problem, black screen while loading Linux

I have a ASUS M5A88-M 880G AM3+ M-ATX motherboard.
Currently installed is a AMD SEMPRON 145 2.8GHZ 1MB SOCKET AM3.

Am I correct in assuming I can buy any AM3 or AM3+ socket CPU and use it in the motherboard without problems? Or is there anything else that makes a newer cpu with moar cores like the FX-8350 uncompatible?

Thanks in advance

If I buy an X370 or B350 AM4 motherboard and Ryzen CPU, should I be able to sell the CPU and drop in a ryzen 2 next year? Or will I probably lose out on features/functionality?

Can someone show me a recursive C implementation of: https://leetcode.com/problems/binary-tree-inorder-traversal/

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how pointers and arrays work in C. Sadly no one online solves these problems in C.

I put a win7 hard drive in my dad's win8 PC and it's complaining that I can't access the user files until I take ownership of them. I got a take ownership drop down menu widget so I could just take direct control of the files and ran it but I still can't open the folder. What do?

Guys I need some help.

I can't connect to Pastebin anymore for some reason. Whenever I try to connect, it gives me a CONNECTION TIMED OUT error.
I pinged the website on cmd through "ping pastebin.com" and none of the packets sent returned (100% loss). I checked my firewall and hosts file but neither has pastebin's IP blocked (104.20.209.21). I also checked uBlock and there are no elements blocked in it either. I tried accessing it with other devices and networks and it seems to be something to do with my modem. What am I missing here?
