I have this exact combination. (the keycaps are dye-subbed, but originally gateron)
keycap choice is solid. I am not sure why you cannot buy two-tones like white and grey, though. I thought that used to be an option.
if you don't need numpad, consider tenkeyless.
are you getting cherry greens or clears? if not, you can consider a cheaper board like the rosewill rk9000.
the keyboard is still nice but flexes due to being full-size. I would imagine the TKL version does not flex as much.
overall it's decent.

also pic related. it has cherry clears

Yeah, I've decided to go with tenkeyless, since I don't use the numpad and it'll only make my mouse needlessly far away.
>are you getting cherry greens or clears?
I was gonna get either blue or browns.
wasd tenkeyless board is $95 with cherry blue by default, they ask for $15 more for clears and $25 for greens.
I don't know if they're worth the extra money.
I can't seem to find a rosewill tenkeyless board, do you know of any other cheaper tenkeyless barebones boards?

depending on country, you can find them on amazon.

unfortunately there is no TKL equivalent of the rosewill rk9000. cooler master's old TKL boards are pretty decent, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to find them in stock anywhere.

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1909
I've heard good things about these, but haven't personally used them. browns, unfortunately, out of stock for the ducky and only 1 in stock for the ganss.

the wasd v2 is not bad especially if you're not getting full-size since it won't flex as much. pic related is personally my biggest gripe with it. I don't like how those sides poke out as it looks ugly and unncessary. also the cable routing feature is terrible.

I'd consider getting one of those, but I want blank keycaps (preferably colored as in pic related),
>I don't like how those sides poke out as it looks ugly and unncessary
Looks kinda nice imo.
I found this blank ducky https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=188
but I don't like the white keycaps and the lights on the caps lock and scroll lock.
It's one $135 and since the wasd board is $95, while the gateron keycaps in pic related are $40, it's not like I'd be saving some money by buying it.
I don't see any other options than a wasd tkl board and those gateron blank keycaps for now.
>>
>>60951009
I just noticed that the blank ducky is out of stock.
Oh well.
>>
>>60951009
oh sorry, I wasn't clear. I linked those keyboards for you to consider buying in addition to the blank gateron keycaps.
because I think they look a bit nicer.
mechanicalkeyboards also seems to offer free shipping, too.
>>
Is it possible to get a custom keyboard from somewhere that only has 8 keys and arrows? For fighting games, like a little mini-controller
>>
>>60952190
Make it yourself, there's no pre-made board like that. Closest you can get is some people in China make a custom numpad with more layout options including ones optimised for using it sideways as a 6*4 gamepad
>>
I bought a mechanical keyboard but now I can't find it

dye subbers are starting to do prints on the whole key and not just the legends, mainly so they can get white legends on pbt but they can do graphics too. this would be much higher quality than pad printing. but you would probably have to pay an arm and a leg to get them to make a custom anime set for you

hi /mkg/

I'm currently looking at various mechanical keyboards and I'd like to vent a bit.

Ducky, Collermaster, Gigabyte and Logitech all have the retarded right bottom row layout of [ALT] [Windows key] [FN] [Ctrl]. As a GNU/Linux user I use the Menu key to get the context menu all the time and I've never once used that windows key, it doesn't even do anything. I'd be fine with [ALT] [FN] [MENU][CTRL] but no, none of those brands make a keyboard that's not missing a rather important key.

And all Corsair keyboards have a retarded layout on the entire bottom row.

It's really annoying that there's basically no good mechanical keyboard for sale anywhere.

I'm thinking about grabbing the HyperX Alloy with blue switches or Ozone Strike Pro also blue switches.

The only mechanical keyboard I have is Corsair Strafe with brown switches(pic related) and It's fucking horrible.
I dunno if this is the fault of Corsair, the brown switches or my oversensitive ears but there's this weird "ping" noise as if you were hitting something metal with a nail or something when clicking some keys. Already shipped it back and the new one has the same issue but different keys are affected.
I'm going full typewriter so that even if the new one is fucked like that then at least I won't be able to hear it amidst the clicking.

Any alternatives to those two that are under $100, blue, full, backlit and possible to get in Poland?

Probably worst board around,30$ chink shit looks better
Cable:Does not match the board
Keycaps,do not match cable or board
Screws are not in exact distance from each other
F1-F10 keys at worst possible place.
They better be in num-pad region or standard top or even better:no f+ keys just shortcut for them.

I rate 2/10 just because I like the base color, could be cute with colorful pbt keycaps and pink braided cable.

There's tons of open source (including open hardware) keyboards, if that's your fetish then build one. It's not that hard - you'll need to put in some effort but pretty much anyone can do it. Plus you'll get to choose exactly the features and layouts you want - complete freedom to craft your perfect keyboard.

Only downside is it probably costs a bit more.

>>
Just curious, what is /mkg/'s opinion on keyboard.io?

Okay so I've pretty much narrowed down my search to pic related. Cherry Red switches, 100% ANSI and yes I use NumPad plenty, Double Shot PBT. I don't actually care for backlighting but it is included anyway.

My budget is $125, any other keyboards worth it more so than this one?
>>
>>60966418
It's the best you can get for that budget, but are you sure you want reds?
>>
>>60966456
I'm not. I keep bouncing back between Red, Brown or Clear. I do plenty of work/typing on it, but I want it to feel the best for gaming. Mainly play Overwatch and MMOs.
>>
>>60966495
Cherry browns are pretty terrible, I'd suggest cherry clears or gateron browns. Reds are really bad for typing.

Are you guys aware that there is media control keys on Pok3r keyboard? I just recently discovered these and since there is no mention of them anywhere I'd say about it here.

fn + D = Volume up
fn + S = Volume Down
fn + F = Mute

And the next ones only seem to work in Windows.
fn + q = either pause, next track or previous track
fn + w =either pause, next track or previous track
fn + e =either pause, next track or previous track

Finding these were pleasant.

the price isn't too unreasonable but since you're new i wouldn't recommend it. the keycaps are thick and double shot but they're ABS so the texture will wear down after a while of using them. thick PBT keycaps are generally preferred. at this price point you can get almost any keyboard so you can look at e.g. TADA68 and KBD75 if you want premium quality just not with the hhkb layout.

Rubberdome shit and laptop keyboards

I just want something really good, really high quality and I can easily buy it from wherever it is in the world. I'm not a stranger to using package forwarders, but I prefer if I can just buy the keyboard straight away without any trouble.
>>
>>60973035
Yeah, you're right. I think I got a bit impatient and ran around tunnel visioned on HHKB. Taking a step back the layout looks pretty difficult to get used to, and I'm currently using a full-sized keyboard. I think I'll just start off with TKL and some more research and work my way towards it if I feel the same as I go on. Thanks man.

add o rings, make custom frame etc.

There is not hand comfort or speed difference between decent 5$ membrane and 200$ mechanical

I do less typos with mechanical brown switches than membrane tho,I m often unsure if i've clicked something already on my membrane

Holy fuck, did Filco's go up in value or am I crazy? Does $200 sound right for a full 104 key Filco Majestouch-2 with cherry browns? Other than the WASD being a little worn, it's in perfect condition. What could I sell it for?
>>

>>60975805
Filco was bought by the chinks and are no longer made in Japan. You can see that new TKLs are still 180 bucks even though they are made by the chinks now
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2023
If yours was made in Japan then it still held its value.
>>
>>60975824
Most rubber domes are 2kro and people have no problem with those. Modifiers don't count towards the limit, and certain matrix designs allow you to press more then two keys at once. What OS are you using?
>>
>>60975992

>>
>>60976121
Some OS like linux and mac have problems with nkro so they default to 6kro. The tada does have nkro so maybe you turned it off. To turn it back on press left shift, right shift, and N all at the same time

If you had tried the links in the OP or Unicomp's website, you'd be able to find a Unicomp for under $100 and a Filco for around $150. I'm not going to spoonfeed you.

>>60975992
>Filco was bought by the chinks and are no longer made in Japan.
I have a Filco that I bought at least as early as 2011 and it says "Made in Taiwan" on the back. When were they made in Japan?

>>60976175
I have one with the trackpoint because it's a nice way to control my media center (computer connected to big screen TV, played on MPC-HC, both hotkeys and mouse use are required) without having two pieces of equipment on my couch. The trackpoint is pretty slow and hard to use precisely and it also gets in the way of my mediocre technique when actually using the keyboard to type. For typing, the key presses are a little heavy. I might be able to get used to it, but in the long run, I think I wouldn't like to type on one. I prefer my lighter Cherry Browns with their much less springy tactical bump, even though they bottom out constantly.
>>
>>60949299
What type of switch do you guys recommend for a first time keyboard?
Light typing and gaming will be going on. I'm thinking browns.
>>
>>60976401
Logitech K120
>>
>>60976401
Gateron browns. Clears are an option too, though they're a bitch to find at reasonable prices due to rarity.

Personally I said fuck it and went with blues. Still not delivered, I'll report back on how it handles games once I actually get it.
>>
>>60976401
I think browns yeah. They seem like the most allround option to me. Blues are slightly less suited for gaming because of the difference in actuation and deactuation point. And red/blacks just seem stupid to me.
>>
>>60976473
>>60976495
I loved the blues. They feel great but I just can see myself getting over them for home use. If I get my own office soon I'll pick one up with blues and clack all day at work

can someone recommend me a keycap set that has the smaller shift I need for a choc mini? or should I just special order the unusual keys?

the carbon custom set on massdrop look real nice but to get the right keys to completely change them all I would have to spend like $100+

I just want to try something other than plan old black, and I think beige with some grey or colored modifier keys would look nice.
>>
>>60976401
MX blues. They're around the same weight as a rubberdome, while having more tactile feedback.
>>
>>60976544
Get DSA carbon on aliexpress instead. Its still expensive, but you get a lot more keys compared to SA carbon
>>
How are 60% for gaming?
>>
>>60976176
>To turn it back on press left shift, right shift, and N all at the same time
not that it really matters (assuming it doesn't cause a delay) but that's a pretty dumb combination, could probably press it by accident when typing normally
>>
>>60976578
how often do you use your function keys or your numpad when gaming?
>>
>>60976142
make it an auction (not buy it now), keyboard autists will probably eat it up if you clean it and take good pics, filcos used to be super popular until they got bought by the chinks

>>
>>60976778
In what non-retarded situation have you ever held both shift keys when trying to type a capital N?
>>
>>60976843
i'm speculating that a reasonable person might do it by accident when typing e.g. CNN, NYC, NV quickly enough. of course, you wouldn't notice that you pressed because it wouldn't make any difference unless your software is all retarded, and i'm not claiming that it would be a frequent occurrence.
>>
>>60976930
also you might make a typo when pressing a different key combination such as ctrl+shift+n
>>
>>60976930
What is the basis for your "speculation"? When have you ever seen people mash BOTH shift keys at once while typing, aside from some autist who doesn't know how to type?
>>
>>60976715
man i just realized i only ever use the left shit, i just adjust my entire left hand for left hand keys

still type at around 105 wpm, wonder how much faster i could actually get if i did it properly
>>
>>60976962
What kind of idiot holds the Ctrl and Shift on opposite ends of the keyboard for this kind of thing?
>>
>>60976968
i guess the idea is

right shift+C
then very quickly after, left shift+N

if you do this very fast you might hit the N before releasing the right shift

but most people don't use the right shift key i'm pretty sure
>>
>>60976968
>>60976987
lmfao sure is summer, why should i even spend any time and energy trying to convince you, you're such a sperglord that you would do it the wrong way just to avoid dealing with your cognitive dissonance, enjoy typing with piss poor ergonomics

>>
>>60977080

Unless you play games where double tapping is a huge issue, that's a meme. I think it may only be useful in like MOBAs or something, because I play FPS, strategy, RPG, and some random indie games and have never needed fast double tapping.
>>
>>60976578
You literally don't need more than like 20 keys even in the craziest games, unless you're playing nethack/dwarf fortress. Those two games (and similar ones) use so many keys that they might be awkward to play on a 40%. Literally everything else would probably be fine on a 30%. 50%+ will let you play anything perfectly.
>>
>>60978004

>>
>>60978170
That's a stupid assumption because red/blacks also have different behaviours in response to "double-tapping".
