Thinkpads are pretty good.
My only advice is to make sure you are comfortable with the screensize and the weight of it.
The 270 is supposedly quite good and is very light - get the cheaper model on the lenovo store and go with 8GB of RAM, 1920 x 1080 screen resolution, upgrade the battery to 72WH and get an SSD. However, the only sizes of SSD on the site are tiny for that laptop.
If possible, would you consider upgrading it yourself?

If you aren't then you can go with a t470 (not t470s or t470p) and get the upgrades I mentioned above with a 256SSD.

I swear this is the biggest meme I hear from college students. In 80% of my classes in my undergrad, I was told that we could not use technology in the classes and was basically just told to use a notepad and paper.

At that point it was a waste to lug around my laptop for the rare class that did let me use it in class, I would rather just keep all my notes in one place and use a pen and paper at that point.

If you sit on campus all day and essentially need a laptop between classes then that's one thing, but then I would ask you why you haven't moved your schedule around to be lined up so you don't have spaces between your classes.

But; if you've ever actually gone to college you'd know this, every other person in the group will have a laptop and it's always easier to get all of your work done on ONE computer so you guys aren't constantly needing to send re-writes and merging files.
