Should I learn ruby as a beginner?
I learned ruby as my first language. It's incredibly fun but absurdly idiosyncratic.
So no. Don't learn python either for the same reason.

doing things in Ruby may take less work than many other languages but ruby comes with complex things that arent made for beginners like functional programming, being able to change any class at runtime, it wasnt easy for me to deal with mixins... and in ruby there are several ways to do the same basic thing while in most other languages you have a default way to do it

Ruby is basically dead. Rails has been a mess for years now and Ruby never really saw much adoption outside of that. I like Ruby a lot more than most dynamically typed languages but if you're going to learn one these days it might as well be Python or Javascript.
