i am in the same boat.

The only thing that is SOMEwhat tempting me is m.2 support, but people keep saying 2GB/sec is a placebo.

Yea I already have the Intel 750 400 GB PCIE SSD and am very happy with its performance so I'm not too interested in the M.2 stuff.

yea, then I don't see any point in upgrading.

I use daz studio with my 1080ti, and no one has conclusively proven to me that 4+ cores will decrease render times significantly. if it does, I will upgrade though.

Let's hope they make some leaps before then. Although, longevity/degradation does worry me since I didn't exactly win the silicon lottery. When I do run my 4.7 OC it's at 1.36 volts. If I want 4.8 I have to push it to 1.376. I'm hoping it doesn't start to crap out soon. I've had it since fall 2015. 4.8 used to be stable but had become less stable over time. Hence the 4.7 OC now.

Nah, it's a fantastic CPU. Ryzen doesn't beat it, (or not by much) so whatever. You may want to upgrade to Ryzen if you want more cores but your single thread performance is still top notch.

Oh yeah, Zen on a better process might be just so great that intel just dies.
But that's years off, and who knows what intel will do. They might even just drop their own process tech and go with gloflo

Unless you do content production/software dev/etc there's little need to upgrade.

There is no upgrade available right now.
You can wait for 10nm but I doubt it will make a big difference either.

Thanks for the advice anons. Basically confirmed what I had suspected. I suppose if I was wanting to stream, a higher core count would be better but then again, why not just build a dedicated capture computer if upgrading my current rig means buying all new parts like a MB and DDR4 RAM.
