Only source based distros will survive this.

Are the GNU/Linux distros becoming a normie meme that they will use to "differenciate" from the rest of normies and pretend being smart or i'm wrong?

Sounds good to me.
This plus systemD will be the best shit ever.
It will be shit. But the best shit. The best shit.

Yes, they are. I switched because I wanted functionality and I started loving fucking in, modifying and writing my own solutions, automating and ricing, but I also see many normans who are running cringey gnu/linux distros and think how based they are, running chrome there not knowing anything, how thing works etc. Their needs are quite different from ours, I would say.
I think it's serious threat to distributions and repositories freedom. They simply don't care and many distros who want spotlight will go on their hand with more proprietary shitness. I don't say it's inevaitbly wrong, but gnu/linux was like fortress of freedom. This will not be like that any longer if normies take over. Than only kinda shitty trisquel-like distros will be free in base. See ubuntu with their whoopsie and zeitgeist and amazon and shit. See kde and their google-paid lgpl. See chromeos. See more shitty "modern" and flashy gui'. The cancer in its early stages for few years, it's long process, but in some point it escalate really quickly tho.

There will always be alternatives for us, but many good distros will die for us in upcoming decade.
I'm saying it as someone from g. Z, 20 years old white cis male.
>>
>>60939276
>>implying package managers aren't the superior way to install and manage programs.
Well they obviously are, but having an OPTION to make an application easily compatible with a lot of distributions, than this is fine, I think.
You obviously can still compile all your shit from source, but normies care about that
>>
>>60939287
>chromeos
>he hates gentoo
top kike
>>
>>60939295
GNU+Linux is not intended to be for normies.
>>
>>60939303
Doesn't make sense, does it?
>>
>>60939308
It's a pain in the ass for developers, not normies, to make binaries and packages for dozens of different distros.
>>
>>60939308
But I thought /g/ wants to have year of the linux desktop? That implies that it has to be for normies
>>
Why can't we all just install Gentoo and be done with it?
>>
>>60939315
chromeos is gentoo, nigger. And gentoo is an awesome meme distro xD
>>
>>60939287

nobody fucking forced gnu faggots to be so stupid and make app deployment autistic, everything via shared libraries, making it a living hell to fix things.
gnu cunts simply dont have the necessary IQ to fix app deployment, they never stood a chance
>>
>>60939287
Just stick to distros that don't automate everything mindlessly or the extreme freedom ones (Gentoo, Arch/Parabola, Void, Trisquel…etc).

>>60939295
>package managers
>compiling from source
You took the INSTALL GENTOO meme seriously, didn't you?
Also, im afraid that this becomes the only standard and alternatives start to vanish (though DESU, we thought the same would happen with Systemd, it still hasn't, thankfully…).

>>60939320
Provide the code, or a simple binary that doesn't utilize STATIC LINKING, the maintainers will take care of the rest.

>>
>>60939354
I personally use it, but it's nice to have alternatives, I don't want another "opensource©™®" windows or homOSeX
>>
>>60936059
AppImage is from 2004 you mongoloid.
>>
>>60939346
> >implying that having the libraries being independent of the binary is a bad thing

if they are in some completely different directory then yes, that is horrible and if you knew anything about app deployment then you would agree with that.
but since you are a freedom nigger you will disagree and hence linux 2%.
that's the truth and the saddest thing about this is that you actually know that I'm right but your nigger tier gnu brain cannot accept any new information beyond "muh shared libs use less RAM lolllll" from 1970 and even back then it was at best a small bonus, AND EVEN THEN if you accept all this, you can still do it the microsoft (=sane) way and put system libs that the USER doesnt need to care about shared in the system dirs and leave apps (which by definition are going to be fairly limited in number for just about every normie user ) and have them all bundle their deps.

BUT NO OF COURES NOT THATS TOO SANE.

MUHH SHARD I WANNA UPDATE MY OPENSSL 1.0.2 TO 1.0.3 BECAUSE HEARTBLEEED LMAOOO THATS GONAN FUCK SO MANY PPL RIGHTTT
>>
>>60939367
You don't think there might be a reason why so many distros have adopted it?
>>
>>60939330
Closed ecosystem has nothing to do with so-much-open Gentoo.
>>
>>60939387
do you really think they had a choice when basic os components and even entire desktop environments needed it as a dependency?
>>
>>60939399
Well maybe there is a reason why those desktop environment used it as a dependency and nothing else?
>>
>>60939386
I can have a 64 bit Alpine system idling at ~150MB RAM thanks to shared libraries. Just because you love sucking drive vendor cock doesn't mean the rest of us do.
>>
>>60939407
Systemd and GNOME are both owned by Red Hat in practice. It wasn't a technical decision.

prolly not entirely, but still systemd is a well thought out ecosystem. It still works pretty good, right?

>>60939433

Its abuse represent the oblivion of package managers.

But is actually useful for quick install, even devs for quick deployment.
>>
>>60944824
It's handy for distro's like Fedora that don't provide multimedia software aswell
>>

How is this different from statically linked binaries? Or is this just that, only with some pretty wrapping to make it less intimidating to use?
>>

It runs in its own filesystem, you basically download the file and run it, like an exe.
>>
>>60945314
so basically a sandboxed statically linked binary
