I have 32GB of ram. At any given moment, with a web browser open, I'm using 4-6gb at maximum, unless GTA V or some such is open and hoovering 16gb.

If my browser could use another 4gb to gain another 20% decrease in page render latency or improved GUI response I would happily welcome such a change.

To ensure that normal e10s is working (a prerequisite for e10s-multi), visit about:support and look for the “Multiprocess Windows” line. As long as the leftmost number is greater than or equal to 1, you’re set. If it says “0/x (Disabled by add-ons)”, then one or more of your add-ons is incompatible and must be removed.
>>
>using sjwfox

nope
>>
>>60935972

Officially. You're been able to use E10S for ages at this point.
>>
in 2017, knowing what we know about Mozilla, and the fact that Firefox is the Swiss Cheese of all browsers- why would you even install it (much less use it as your daily driver)?

Are you literally retarded?
>>
>>60936065
i mean this sorry

Once you've got normal e10s up and running, visit about:config and set the value of dom.ipc.processCount to 4 to opt-in to e10s-multi. You do not need to restart your browser for this to take effect.
>>
>>60935538

I have about 15 tabs that I load every day when I tun on my computer.
Various news sites, banking, etc etc

Since v54 came out, they all load in less than half the time, and when I launch them all at once, it uses a ton of cpu power to load them all in a fraction of the time as before.

One thing I've noticed though is 4chan won't keep the website settings when opening new tabs, like if I want to open multiple threads on a board, it won't keep the settings of the first tab.

>>
>>60942054
You can't connectNative() with arguments so you would have to write a wrapper which parses json and calls mpv with whatever it gets from the json.
So like this https://github.com/vayan/external-video for instance:
>You need to copy mpv.json and mpv.py so the addon can use the Native Messaging API
>mpv.json is a manifest to tell Firefox where the python script is located.
>mpv.py is a dumb script that just launch mpv with some args

>>
>>60935538

>>
>>60942180
Yeah. I already use my own script for format and program selection anyway (some urls work better with streamlink), so that wouldn't be an issue. https://github.com/vayan/external-video does "the tricky part" correctly, but what I want is basically "open url with program" function in link context menu. mpv-youtube-dl-binding is great because it works with arbitrary url.

Haven't noticed a downside yet. I would recommend enabling all uBlock filters. The ones in "ads" should be enabled to prevent most sites from spamming "please disable adblock".

My laptop has 4GB RAM. Everything I run on Linux is fine, that is until I start using a Web browser (Chrom* or Firefox), then my machine regularly runs out of RAM, which fucks everything up.

BTW the almost only right thing Chrom* ever did right was to focus on UI responsiveness (latency). But of course the Mozilla autists are simply to brain damaged to understand the concept of raw performance vs ux responsiveness and spout stupid shit like "hurr le who cares about 0.1 millisecond lmao" as an excuse to ignore such things.

>inb4 hurr le 4gb ram is low
No it's fucking not. I refuse to accept a universe where having bunch of terminals and a web browser with 10-25 of tabs open somehow needs more that 4 fucking gigabytes. Kill yourself anyone suggesting that.

Oh also holy fucking shit Firefox, bring touchscreen support on Linux already like what the fuck. And no, enabling it with an env var still fucks it up when you dare to right click. And that's another thing that Chrome does right, they actually *do* support touchscreens, unlike Firefox which merely pretends by making shitty UI design.
>>
>>60944580
no worries.

nightly is more for devs and enthusiasts who want breaking edge features and see how their contributions effect the outcome

Not him but my firefox is currently consuming 1.1GB RAM with 13 tabs open. I tend to open around 20 tabs when I'm searching for shit. And it doesn't really matter how many tabs you have but how many sites you've visited in total. For example closing half of my tabs now still leaves the RAM usage on 1.0GB. It caches sites if it has available RAM. But even with a few background applications my OS still uses less than 3GB RAM so I'm not sure why anon struggles with 4GB.

>>

>>
>>60944867
Well I kinda want something debian based but xfce doesn't has nice transitions.

>>60944884
no grub
I use EFI partition so I can just use the build in startmenu at boot
>>
>>60944847
I only have uBlock and downloadhelper as addons. Unity is my DE.
Relaunching firefox moves it back to 230MB usage. I just rarely close the browser. Sometimes I don't close it for days since I reboot my PC only once a week for updates, I suspend it instead of turning it off. So it probably leaves recently closed pages cached in RAM.
>>
>>60944919
ah.

the transitions are from the compositor (which xfce doesnt have) this improved performance because the transition is merely a animation effect added

i can understand the eye candy aspect though

as for terminals checkout urxvt for ultimate minimalistic

you can remove the stock terminal

also lxappearance is a minimal theme changer

even if you use KDE you can pick and choose your pieces :)
thats the fun of linux!

Q: Will this add-on ever be multi-process (e10s) compatible?
A: Add-ons can't monitor sites' LocalStorage usage in e10s mode. This functionality will probably never be restored for legacy add-ons such as SDC. This means that the answer is "very likely never". You can still force-enable e10s and SDC should clean your cookies just fine, but it can only clean your LocalStorage when the browser starts.

they are restricting certain features in about:config to prevent priv escalations for malicous addons or addons that arent updated frequently enough that leave holes in your attack surface

this will also streamline addons to increase performance

the addon devs who arent updating to the new standards are the same addon devs that would allow their users to go without security updates unmaintained for months

then the users blame firefox unknowingly even though that addon said in the store that its not been audited by mozilla and its 3rd party
