Thanks anon. Chill enough to keep me relaxed but groovy enough to keep me engaged.
Listening to music while doing anything but mathematics is counterproductive.
>>60937683
For you, maybe. I can't seem to get as much done without listening to music.

That's a cool album cover

No, for everyone. Anything processed in the right hemisphere is going to be impeded by music because of the way it is processed. If given the choice between silence and music, you should pick silence.

I feel like that may only be true when listening to vocals or something which needs to actively be processed. Listening to something more repetitive without vocals that can fade away as background noise like pure instrumentals probably doesn't impede on the thought process as much.
>>60937746
No, not really. Even if it's just background noise, I find it more appealing than no sound at all. Unless you can prove it to me, I'm going to continue enjoying myself while I work.
>>60937819
Your anecdote is irrelevant; this is simply the way the brain works, and you are not special. For the same reason that listening to music (with vocals) interferes with reading, it interferes with programming. I assume you, like most people, do not listen to instrumental music, so listening to "music" is indeed counterproductive.
>>60937898
Guess I'll just enjoy myself then, thanks.

Sleep is good. Most stoner/doom metal is pretty good for it. I've listened to Holy Mountain, Dopesmoker, and Dopethrone probably 20 times each easily.
At this point though, I just listen to music for about a third of my work day, podcasts another third, and bullshit with coworkers the rest of the time. So I listen to whatever strikes my fancy while programming. Like today, I listened to:
Butthole Surfers - Electriclarryland
Bassnectar - Reflective
Front Line Assembly - Implode
Future - DS2
three of those I'd never listened to before. but yeah I lean towards stoner/doom and industrial
