On my main desktop PC that I've had time to set up: no desktop environment, just i3.
On a new machine when I need to install a GUI asap without having to seperately configure basic functions like screenshots: Gnome.
I'll be a lot happier with Gnome when it gets quarter-tiling, which I believe is being worked on.

Was on Xubuntu+i3wm prior which was really nice and didn't take long to setup, it felt right at home. Currently using arch and gnome3 because it was the only DE I could get running stable with wayland.
I switched to arch recently because I wanted to understand how to tailor my desktop from the ground up which is a bit harder to learn with ubuntu and give wayland a shot to get rid of screen tear. I needed the latest updates on wayland's progress so arch seemed like a good fit.
Just waiting on Sway to improve to a useable condition, but after playing around with gnome extensions I might stick with it if I can get a tiling extension working to my liking even if the level of customization feels constrained.
Tried installing KDE plasma, but it kept freezing and crashing my system which turned me off even though I like the level of options available out of the box.
I'd be using sway now if I didn't experience slowdown as I opened more tiled windows, they will be moving from weston to a better compositor so I will keep an eye on its progress.
Learned a fair bit more and feel comfortable navigating with nothing but the terminal now. The arch wiki is really informative, don't know if I will be switch back to ubuntu on my main desktop anytime soon, will likely have ubuntu installed on other systems and a home servers because it is far easier to maintain.

I like LXDE. It's very ugly by default but also very quick and easy to configure. I prefer to have a launcher like Docky or Plank, though.
