I want to get a little servo motor to push the button on my kettle. Gonna hook it up to a TI MSP430, and a power source with a little mini breadboard, and cover it in plastic. Total NigRig.
What do I need to buy?
I think a stepper motor will draw too much power.

Just replace actual switch you niggerwhopper

It wouldn't be that difficult, but it would require modding the kettle. A servo is a nice easy external way to do the same thing.
I also wish I knew the answer to OP's question since I've had a bunch of servo related projects rolling around in my head for a whike.
