I hate it too, but my meatspace friends refuse to use anything else. It's surreal, we're all around 30, it's like they all fucking forgot there were better ways.

It reminds me of the time we had PocketPC phones, then everybody forgot smartphones existed till the iPhone came out.

Huh? Mumble has had a voice activation/push-to-talk wizard for ages, I've never found it any more difficult to use than TS or Discord or any of the others. The overlay should be disabled by default though.

There is so much better alternatives to Discord, but you probably never used anything but discord. You probably should make your own server on Matrix or use a Matrix client, it basically has all the discord features and even more, (except for they cringie memes) go for an Open Source alternative.
Discord doesn't respect your privacy at any level and also pushes on you their stupid terms use.
