>Netflix is now planning to participate in the "Internet-Wide Day of Action to Save Net Neutralityā€¯ on July 12, protest organizers said today.
>While major Web companies like Amazon and Reddit were on board from the get-go, Netflix seemed to have dropped out of the fight to preserve net neutrality rules. Recently, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that net neutrality rules have become less important to Netflix because "we're big enough to get the deals we want," and the time has come for smaller companies to lead the way.
>"Netflix will never outgrow the fight for #NetNeutrality," the company said today in a tweet that links to the Day of Action website. "Everyone deserves an open Internet."

You're a perceptive one.
But you're still powerless unfortunately. The US' power structure is so fucking entrenched in corruption people accepted it long ago.

You'll continue to slowly get more fucked by every iteration of the two same fucking parties with the same status quo agenda until something snaps so hard it brings chaos.

of course they support it

>>
>>60920676
Doesn't really mean that they are wrong.

The average Joe's best interest would only seriously be addressed by breaking up the current ISPs and undoing all the bullshit monopoly inducing laws around.
But that will never fucking happen in a million years.

Leveraging the power of Silicon Valley against cable companies could result in a positive outcome for us if the FCC had any semblance of integrity. But Ha fucking Ha right?
>>
>>60920725

How do you know Silicon Valley won't have the goods for themselves?

Apple will create its own content for television.
>>
>>60920760
The only way to avoid this would be to have strong antitrust regulation that is enforced and kept up to date by a government that isn't corrupt. That shit happened to AT&T before remember?

So yeah, we're fucked.
>>
what does NN do again?
>>
>herp derp let us impose arbitrary regulations because WE NEED LAWS TO PROTECT FREEDOM!
Reminder that this is the same retarded shit that eventually let the FCC dictate what you can and cannot say on printed media, TV, and radio under "decency laws".
Give them an inch and they'll take the entire distance to the sun.
>>
>>60920809
>slippery slope argument
Be subtle at least.
>>
>>60920798
Gives a government agency regulatory power over what is allowed over communications mediums.
I.E. Under the guise of consumer protection, they'll be able to dictate what is and isn't allowed over lines.
>>
>>60920823
>It's not a valid argument it doesnt matter if it's happened multiple times in the past! Look! Look I know the names of a logical fallacy!
That only applies if there isn't prior evidence to that happening.
There is very direct evidence of this exact thing happening multiple times in the past.
>>
>>60920798
Forbids ISPs from prioritizing some forms of traffic over others. Especially pertaining to provenance.

You can't, for instance, route packets from your own video provider faster than Google's.
>>

Net Neutrality in the form of FCC authority IS government regulation of contents.
This isn't just as plain as "you cant have paid fast lanes, ISPs". If it were I'd be all for it. If you actually read into the legislation they're trying to put in place it's doing a whoooole fucking lot more than that.

>>60920867
Because they don't actually read.

>>60920887
Yeah, so why are we trying to give the government the power to manage and manipulate the status quo?

Because retards on social media sites think that their politicians are basement dwelling manchildren who spend most of their freetime in front of a gaming monitor.

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/6dhu80/letter_from_my_congressman_on_net_neutrality/

They could have told Gowdy about the consequences of ending Net Neutrality and how it fucks over the little guy. However, they would rather cry in their echochambers rather than continue persuading their representatives how unpopular the bill is to the American Public.

The American Congress are a couple generations older than the youthful adults, nowadays, so they don't really have much knowledge and enthusiasm of the internet, in the first place.
>>
>>60921395
Don't care, got my SIG.
But outside of that they are pretty okay.

You could also go to France or Germany, Americans think that they are much worse than they actually are for some reason. But yeah we like our states here in Europe, so you can have your guns but you'll need to fill in the botomless well of paperwork first.

But at least you won't get fucked over by the establishment as much because people give a damn about politics.
>>
>>60920983
>"you cant have paid fast lanes, ISPs".
What's the problem with having paid direct peering lanes that reduces stress put on ISP's networks and ensures a good experience for the end user? The biggest "data hog" content providers have direct peering lanes with most major ISPs in the USA.

>pic related.
>>
>>60921442
>What's the problem with having paid direct peering lanes that reduces stress put on ISP's networks and ensures a good experience for the end user?
Removes incentives to improve the overall network and pushes the market towards even more centralization.
What you want to solve the problem of the heavy couple of content providers is paid for caching boxes which Netflix proposed to the ISPs before.

But the greedy fucks really just want to double dip and.
>>
>>60921411
What the fuck is the point of writing to someone who won't even read past the second sentence of your letter?
>>
>>60921072
>existing net neutrality rules
That have yet to go into effect, which is a good thing.

>>60921442
If major ISPs didnt partner up or even outright own content creation companies, I'd have no issue with a paid fast lane, but since they do (and always will) it's a conflict of interest.

>>60921017
Different countries have different legislation.
Also congrats on living in the utopia of the world.
>>
>>60921509
Virtue signaling I guess?
I mean spamming the assholes with letters sometimes work.
>>
>>60921064
trucks pay far more in taxes relative to weight than cars do
>>
>>60921509
Because sometimes a letter is not enough to get your voice heard. Some Senators and Representatives are constantly active in the political field, while others are carefree with more time and less responsibilities. People like Gowdy only see the Net Neutrality conflict at face value and don't understand, or have time to understand the situation at hand because of their schedules. If you really want your voice heard over the thousands of others, than a direct confrontation face-to-face, will be the best method for letting your politicians know. Rallying for more hands and soliciting help from others will help your cause go a long way, too.

They're representatives, not nobles. Listening to The People they represent is part of their job. Try writing to your Congress first, and see where his/her opinions lie, then escalate should he/she not respond to your message.
