I noticed on some VM software it has an option to use a real host partition as the virtual hard drive and I've also been reading up on QEMU and GPU passthrough basically can I use a single OS installation both inside and out of a VM? I planning on setting up Windows 10 for gaming use with Fedora 25 as a host, but I don't trust the near-native performance claims so I'd like to have it usable without needing to reinstall outside of a VM if its not satisfactory

So I bought some cheap Hama adapter, but I can't seem to make it work. Windows 7 installs some drivers, but they don't seem to do much. I checked and it said is chipset
CSR8510 A10 so I searched for drivers and install all sorts of shit, but nothing really worked properly.
Any ideas?

nvidia/amd creates the chip and a reference card.
those manufacturers then either use the same PCB as theirs or create their own custom PCB layout so they can have their own coolers on it or add other silly features like LED lights and what not.
Some just plop on a different cooler that is more silent/more efficient.
They can also clock it higher and test the chips beforehand and sell them for more.
>>
>>60913670
Is there a best and a worst for this?
>>
>>60913701
there's a lot of factors to consider.
clock rate, cooling, overclocking, length of warranty, price, sometimes card size.

if you don't care or don't know get the cheapest one with the warranty you are comfortable with, it's not going to make much of a difference then.
>>
>>60913701
As in, brand to buy? It varies by generation and card. For instance, EVGA is usually a decent brand, but they totally fucked up the 1070 and 1080 coolers by not having them cool the VRMs at all(though they've since fixed it). And Asus makes good cards if you want Nvidia, but they reuse the same designs for their AMD cards, which obviously makes them worse since different GPUs need different designs. Your best bet is to not trust the brand, and look at reviews instead.

I've got a tv as a second monitor running from a 980. Sometimes the TV will overscan and then oversaturate the color and kicks it off of 60 hz. The same file will and wont do this. The fuck is the difference between running gimp and gimp-2.8 in a terminal? I've always typed gimp, but I just looked in the menu and realized the shortcut is gimp-2.8, and there are two separate commands in the bin folder.

Why?
>>
>>60914019
so you can type gimp instead of having to add the version number.
>>
>>60914019
Because you might want to have different versions of the software installed. I'm not sure if it makes sense to use an older version of GIMP, but there are probably quite a few people who have python 2 scripts around for instance.

Ok i need some help

I have an old ass monitor as a back up which only has a vga connector and nothing else, and since my current one is RMA i have to use it. I also have 2 graphics cards, a 1060, which i wanna use, but which doesnt have a vga or DVI-I connector, and a 660 which does, but sucks dick. an hdmi to vga adapter seems like a waste since i'll get a replacement in around 10 days, and i can bare it.

My question: can i plop the 1060 into the second pci-e slot and use it as the work horse for games and other shit while the 660 drives the display without sli?

Morning everyone,

I'm attempting to create a W7 installation drive for a W10 laptop.
> Not g7 cpu
> Has compatible W7 drivers from manufacturer website

I'm using YUMI to create an installation thumbdrive, The Win7 iso is Team Grinder's W7 iso with all the security updates up to Dec 2106.

https://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/
http://www.overclock.net/t/1587577/windows-7-updates-list-descriptions-telemetry

So, I've got the thumbdrive set with fat32 and the W7 iso applied to it. Now, as I reported yesterday, the W7 installation halts at the driver request.

>>60905297

I was recommended to try this:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility

BUT, the program does not seem to get past the "Initializing DISM" part of the process. Screenshot attached. Yes I am running it as admin.

Any ideas on what to try next?
I youtube searched this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd37BJwTxiM

Can anyone verify if this would essentially do the same thing?
>>
Is there a downside to setting all your system fans to run at 100% all the time. My shit keeps getting hot. Yesterday I smelled the acrid scent of a hard drive melting
>>
>>60915152
Noise, mostly. I imagine running the fans at max will also cause them to wear out faster.
>>
>>60915193
That's funny. It's still very quiet.
Maybe the fans I have are just shit.
>>
>>60915093
I may lead you down the wrong path, but I once did exactly what you're trying to do using Rufus to make the USB bootable and then using MSI Smart Tools to add USB3.0 compatitibilty. Worked no problem.
That being said I was using an ISO I ripped myself, so I don't know if it's the same
>>
>>60914773
If you don't use it, might as well turn the thing off.
Otherwise breaking into the network is as simple as:
A. having hardware access to the device and using hardware WPS button
B. bruteforcing the pin, which requires barely 11000 attempts
There are also other methods, but they are not as universal.

Absolutely love these things. They also come in red, white, or blue if LED is your thing.
>>
>>60914528
Don't worry about it. It's impossible for electronics to remain 100% consistent, so minor fluctuations in clocks and/or voltages is to be expected.
>>
>>60915152
Slightly more power consumption (maybe like $4 more a year, almost nothing compared to the rest of the system), more noise, possibly shorter fan life.

That's it really. Should be fine if you don't mind the noise and you really need more cooling.
>>
>>60915464

Certainly worth a shot, everything is backed up.
https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Also, it seems I made a stupid mistake and downloaded the wrong program from the Intel page. I mistakenly grabbed the one for W8/10 users and not for W7. I'm formatting this thumbdrive on my main W7 desktop.

If it doesn't work though, I'll try your suggestion!

Posted in the last thread about defragging, it's been running a few hours now. Does this seem normal? Is it really going to take days?
>>
>>60915748
no, it's only just started, give it a bit more time
considering the size and number of fragments, it'll probably take at least a few hours though
>>
>>60915748
Could very well take the better part of a day. If you have another drive it would be faster to transfer most of it off, defrag what's left, and then transfer it back. Uninstall anything you're not using.

Make sure to delete all your temp files first, too. Run CCleaner and Disk Cleanup.

Go straight to Java. Java is very beginner-friendly language, you should be fine with it. Start by learning how to do simple command line stuff and how classes, inheritance, exception, common data structures and so on work. After that you can pick up a framework and start doing small projects with it.

EAC is the best.

Bullshit. It needlessly obfuscates everything to the point where it takes 10 lines just for hello world.

That said, if someone wants to be a Java programmer, there's no real point in starting with some other language.

My SanDisk 32GB Ultra USB drive has a Code 10 error, meaning it "failed to start". It has worked in the past, and I've only owned it for a couple of weeks. I tried to put Fedora on it so I could install it on my laptop, but that seems to have destroyed it somehow.

To fix a Code 10 error, I apparently need to uninstall all USB drivers from my computer, and then let them reinstall themselves: https://www.lifewire.com/g00/how-to-fix-code-10-errors-2623181?i10c.referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F
But if I have already ruined the drivers somehow, is there a chance that I won't be able to get new drivers and just destroy all USB functionality on my computer? I don't want that to happen.

Because we don't even use x64 most of the time. It's useful only to support wider addressing ranges, which limited machines to 4GB of RAM (this can be worked around on 32bit, Linux kernel has an option for that). On 64bit machines, with 64bit addressing, you can have up to 16384 PB of RAM, and we are nowhere near that.

Check if Linux LiveCD sees the HDD. You can use SysRescueCD, it will have all the the tools you might ever need.

Hope some CS fags can help me out. I got this question on an exam recently (pic related)

The way I understand it, to contradict the pumping lemma, given any m, I need to find some word w such that for any decomposition w =uvxyz satisfying |vxy| <= m and |vy|>= 1, the v and y part can be pumped in such a way that the resulting word is not in the language. However, I couldn't figure out how to do it and it seems impossible to me, here's my reasoning:

Suppose there exists such a word w that i can use to contradict the pumping lemma. Then w cannot contain the string ab or ba, since otherwise uvxyz could be such that vy = ab or vy = ba, which can be pumped without violating the equation that defines the language (adding a's and b's in equal amounts). Similarly, it cannot contain aac, aca or caa anywhere, since a uvxyz with vy equal to those could be pumped without producing any word outside the language (adding two a's for each c).
So w cannot contain the letter a, because it cannot be neighboured by the letter b, and if it is neighboured by c there is at least one c for each a, and such a word cannot be in the language.

I'm probably misunderstanding something, so any help is appreciated.

You sound like you're in the position I was in a couple of years ago. I got a CompTIA A+, the universal babby certification, and used that to find a job that would pay for me to get more specialised qualifications. My last job offered me an MCSA, and my current job is offering me a CCNA, but neither of those would have been any use in the other job so you need to be careful which ones you study.

You can study programming in your own time just as a hobby. JavaScript is probably the best place to start, because it's incredibly easy (like Python) but also more similar to Java. It's also very popular, so there are lots of resources online for it.

Are there any alternatives to DAZ Loader for authenticating a W7 install on a machine that was previously W8/10 with W7 compatible drivers?

I've gone through the hoops of getting it installed and am on Win7 now, but the authenticator will not work due to the UEFI.

I've been using a voice recorded app on Android called "Parrot" that stores files to >SD card\Android\data\com.SearingMedia.Parrot\files\parrot

I know they're here because when I select a recorded file from within the app, and press on details, it says
>File location: /data/user/0/com.SearingMedia.Parrot\files\parrot\Jun 09,063342.wav"

However, when I connect my phone to the computer, the folder is empty. The files work (can be heard when played from the app), but they just don't appear on the file explorer.

Now, the developers wrote this as an answer to somebody asking the same:

>Hi David, Internal recorders are stored in a folder that is in a private sandbox folder which is inaccessible to other apps for security. You will need to share all of your tracks outside of the application. Long press on a row to start the multi-select tool then tap on all of your tracks. We suggest sharing using our SendAnywhere integration.

I don't want to use these wireless methods. Is there any way at all that I could access these files by connecting the phone to a computer?

Hard to say since you can't compare the detail loss or not. Basically if you don't want to compare, just get one that looks nice to you. After all ignorance is bliss, and if you don't know what you're missing, you won't miss it.

But don't be retarded, downloading a 10GB per episode torrent is the stupidest thing ever.

Hey guys, not trying to derail your discussion about this, but I need to remind you that what you call Linux is actually the GNU/Linux system (or GNU+Linux, or just GNU-Linus, anything that really denotes the idea). You probably have already heard about this, but in case you didn't or you forgot, Linux itself is not the operating system, it's just a Kernel that has been plugged into the greater GNU system of software such that the whole product can qualify as an operating system.

It's important to refer to it by a full label, as the GNU project that created GNU/Linux was intended to facilitate free software. While Linux was a great tool/material in this, but the creator of Linux specifically strayed away from support for free software, as such attributing the entire resource of GNU/Linux to just Linux and thus its creator, could be disingenuous and is a sort of self-destructive behavior as you are taking power and credit away from the social movement that provided this great tool.

Linux is a thing, by itself, and is used in other operating system projects, so it might also confuse a reader.

Just wanted to remind you so that we can all stay focused on the movement for total user freedom.

Ive been awake all night trying to make a laptop usable either from a live usb or whatever. One of the things I tried was making a Windows to Go 8.1 installation on an external drive, upon booting and shortly after the screen with the blue windows tiles and loading circle I noticed the hard drive shuts off (spins down and activity led turns off completely), which seems to indicate that the usb controller is saying nope and turns it off. This seems to coincide with other WinPE usbs I tried that stay on that screen loading forever, but because there was no indicator of activity I could not tell they were off.

The laptop is your average 200$ walmart HP turd with horrible specs and Windows 10. It has UEFI and this is my first time dealing with UEFI firmwares so I dont know if its something to do with secureboot or not (its set to legacy mode in the BIOS settings page and Secure Boot was left off). It has a broken hard drive that keeps trying to spin up all the time (it was dropped) so maybe that has to do something with it.

Any idea why it does the above shutting down usb devices mentioned above? It gets to bootloaders fine but as soon as an OS starts loading it does this, save for Linux distros tho.

Speccy is a little silly like that. On the summary tab you usually won't be able to see it.
Furthermore, if you have Speedstep and different C states set, you CPU maybe underclocking itself as Speccy is started up. In this case the CPU tab in Speccy will reflect the clock the CPU had when you started the software.
However if your CPU is doing something as you start Speccy, you'll likely see the voerclock reflected on the CPU tab like >>60924237

1) the x-axis is in a logarithmic scale. It just means the GDP was preprocessed by applying the logarithm to make the graph more readable since magnitude would have been too sparse otherwise. It's just a viewing aid.
For the Y-axis, grow rate probably means the GDP at year z + 1 over the GDP of the previous year (z). This gives you an idea of how much the GDP is growing.

Most likely thing is power supply

Second most likely is hard drive

After that who knows, could be your GPU cables slightly came unplugged and got fucked up, could be your entire system exploded because you bought a $10 Chinese PSU and fried everything

If you have spares lying around try spare PSU and then HDD I guess, after that good luck.

If you take it into any local shop they'll probably be able to diagnose what the problem is because they have all the spare parts to swap in and out, but they'll try to scam you with overpriced shit and more than you really need. Worth a try anyway if your PC is worth anything at all and if they're reasonable people they might find the problem and simply say "you need a new X" and that's it. If that's all you need then just buy it. If they say you need like 3-4 things replacing just build a new PC with modern stuff and a much better power supply this time.
