So i'm thinking about getting some new pieces for my rig but at the same time i feel as though what i want isn't actually needed and all that i really have to do is clean up what i have in here already.
Got an i5-3570k @4ghz as of right now and i keep telling myself if i just get something new and shiny i'll be able to run things i want to at higher settings.(recently got a 1060 brand new) I get the feeling that
the 3570 is possibly too old to be able to keep up with the 1060? I have zero knowledge on these things. At the same time i'm pretty sure if i just apply new thermal paste to the cpu which i haven't in over 5 years
(yes i know wtf am i doing) i'll be able to push the performance even more without overheating like i currently am. Also i think i'm probably due for a new hdd which i've also had for a little over 5 years.
Any ideas of the course of action i should take? Was looking at the i5-7600k or even a Ryzen 5 1600 but again i have no knowledge of what would actually be an upgrade worth spending money on as of right now.

nonetheless, I don't wanna be a dick today so I'll tell you: a 4ghz i5 3570k should easily keep up with a 1060. Don't upgrade yet, wait for Covfefe lake or Zen+.

I'd say wait for next gen
Zen was a great leap but still not enough to justify upgrading from 3570k
Anyone buying haswell refresh number 3 (especially if not 7700k) would be retarded
I'd say zen2 looks really promising, big node shrink, fixing all the quirks of the new arch etc
I doubt coffee Lake will be any new competition unless you want a heater for winter
Try and crank that cpu a bit higher and see what 2018 has to offer

Does it fill all your needs? Wait for Zen+ next year.
Does it still work but feels old? Wait until christmas to check for a new Zen stepping and any better mainboards.
Is it dying right fucking now? Get Zen or 7700k.
