I used configure-opengl-hq.bat. It created mpv folder and config in it. I edited it. The config definitely works because wasapi has effect.

Its not. Wasapi only started working after i enabled it.
>>
>>60911382
Forcing wasapi is really strange but it's impossible to check every machine setup. Windows had also some massive botnet infections recently and microsoft released huge updates that had some side effects and a lot of them are related to audio. I advice you to reboot windows correctly twice, it's not a shitpost, it seems it works for most of people suffering from audio issues. Maybe they fucked the mechanism that control wasapi and that why mpv can't use it at runtime.
>>

Check Microsoft Update, sometimes Windows fails to install updates.

Lots of people on Google attempting and failing to build mpv with Vapoursynth. Not that Windows users will know how to build mpv in the first place. Not that Windows is a good OS to build software with in the first place. But yeah. MadVR is still a far superior option for Windows users.

The challenge was to produce an upscale as sharp and with as little artifacting/noise as the MadVR upscale and to post repeatable settings for doing so. The mpv upscale you are referring to is clearly less sharp in the circled areas here. It came close, but not quite.

Mpv fags hate madvr because it's a windows renderer that doesn't work on linux and madvr shills hate mpv because it's a concurrent project that works on windows. However it seems there are only linux noobs that currently want ngu and other shits, because advanced linux users just can't use a software they can't build from source. For these noobs you just should use latest wine with mpc-hc and madvr, this solution works!

How can I make [protocol.http] override any [extension.mp4] options?

I want a small cache for my local files so that if they're still being downloaded mpv won't try to cache where there is no data yet, but I want files online to cache fully so that I can skip through them without having to buffer.
When a file fits both the http and .mp4 criteria mpv loads both profiles and it ends up using the small cache options from extension.mp4

Ok now it works. I indeed had to use the streamlink config file. Actually, using the mpv config file was ok too, but apparently mpv doesn't realize it's playing a stream when streamlink handles it, so it probably assumes it's a local file. And because cache=auto only uses cache with streams, it didn't work. Fuck, it sounds so obvious now.

Here's what to add to the streamlink config file if anyone's interested:
player=mpv --cache=yes --cache-default=15360 --cache-secs=10 --cache-initial=2048

NGU can avoid ringing artifacts, there is nothing like that for mpv.
SSimSuperRes works as anti-ringing only, but not deringing

>>60928282 Here.
I made a comparison of ewa_lanczos+ssimsuperres vs NGU AA Very High.

Left is lanczos. Right is NGU.

Lanczos has lots of ringing and slightly more artifacts while NGU has some nasty lines. Pls help me to improve left picture. I tried sigmoid-slope=10.0 but it didnt really help.

is there any reason to use mpv and all of this stuff over something like k-lite for the average user?

You could start by removing these, since they are already part of the opengl-hq profile.

sigmoid-upscaling=yes

Oooh. I learned that you can just put
opengl-shaders="~~/shaders/nnedi3-nns32-win8x4.hook"

And it will work. No need to include full file path. Thanks!

Cuda doens't work with Angle, use
opengl-backend=win
or
opengl-backend=dxinterop

Can someone help me with nnedi3 doubling twice please. I use:
opengl-shaders="~~/shaders/nnedi3-nns32-win8x4.hook,~~/shaders/nnedi3-nns32-win8x4.hook"

And it only doubles once. Stats don't change if i remove second one.

That's not lanczos ringing, that's your video has lots of ringing.

Re-encode it with HQDering or download a better quality rip.

If dxinterop works fine in your system, doesn't crash or work slower, you can use it.

Why? They are blurry. Granted, it prevents certain artifacts but only because it smooths them over...

I dont think its a good idea to use sharpener on sharpener. Try adaptive with low resolution content in low volumes and use ssimsuperres with things that dont need much upscaling like 720->1080.

Is there any way to achieve pic related in mpv??? It be VERY useful.
>>
>>60929270
Actually, if NGU AA doesn't show ringing, but EWA Lanczos does, then the ringing must be caused by EWA Lanczos, because NGU AA does *not* remove ringing. NGU Sharp/Standard/Soft do reduce/remove ringing, but NGU AA does not.

SSimSuperRes is anti-ringing. If there is ringing, it's in the source.

I dunno low res images/videos look ugly with ssimsuperres to me. Source's artifacts are too obvious with it.

He made this: https://github.com/Argon-/mpv-stats
Also looked through his config when I was new to mpv. It's annotated so you can just grab a few options you like. Faster than reading the man page.

I have a 1060 and use hwdec but seems like a lot of people are against it, why? I don't see any difference with or without
>>
>>60930836
I always use hwdec myself. I think people are against it because you can't use shit like vapoursynth with it. Any complaints I see about quality otherwise seem unfounded to me.
>>
>>60930836
First of all, there are different hardware decoders. Some are completely fucked up, some are decent.
Potential problems: they perform conversions (badly, of course) and mpv can't perform proper color management. In cases they align croma and luma planes (e.g. to convert to RGB) and do this using bad algorithms (usually bilinear or bicubic) and mpv can't use your cscale. Stuff like that can but doesn't have to happen. Some also shit themselves with certain formats.

There's also no benefit using them, really. The one major benefit is potentially lower energy usage on mobile hardware. However, with CPUs being good and software more optimized than ever, h264 decodes in software nearly as efficient as in hardware. So there's really no point, especially not when you are on a desktop. So why risk the problems mentioned above?

There's one exception though and that's when your software decoder is not fast enough. This is the case for h265 where software just isn't nearly as optimized as with h264. Trying to decode h265 4K 60FPS in software is probably impossible for most systems, here you need hwdec.
>>
nnedi3 in mpv looks better than nnedi3 in madvr. What the fuck.
>>
>>60930994
decoding HEVC is intensive but when I read about hwdec none of them looked safe, is there a way of telling which one you're using?
>>
>>60931367
Not sure. Different operating systems have a set of different drivers available and there's no general rule which ones are fucked up.
>>
>>60930994
Is cuda safe?

>cuda should always be preferred unless the opengl vo is not being used or filters are required.
From the manual.
>>
>>60931421
Don't know. This might also vary depending on driver versions etc. (on Linux you usually have multiple alternatives, each fucks up differently)

Also, the *-copy modes are required when you want to use filters and stuff but then the hardware decoder does even less stuff and there's even fewer reasons to use it at all.
(The case of h265 still being an exception of course)
>>
>>60929729
>Is there any way to achieve pic related in mpv??? It be VERY useful.
I want this too.
>>
>>60929946
Looks like it's just a difference in default subtitle styling.
There are a ton of options you can tweak to get it looking however you like it: https://mpv.io/manual/master/#options-sub-font
