Dragonbox Pyra

You could probably make something similar with a rasberry pi. Pyra is overpriced as shit and not out yet last I checked.

If you really want one, buy it.

>>60909189
>>60909286
It's twice the price, less then half the performance. Oh and it does not even exist yet, in development for years.
Build quality also looks notoriously bad, even the chink shit GPD Win is pretty good build quality wise if you ignore the shitty QC units.

Not to mention it's ARM, the Win stands for Windows you know, it's x86 compatible.

>>60909367
This is a good idea if you are okay with ARM and 3D printed shit.

How is the keyboard? Feels tacky or tolerable enough to type on it?
>>
>>60909702
With thumbs, yes, it's nice and tacky.
Once you get used to thumb typing with it, because one thumb covers more of the keyboard then the other, it's even okay for the occasional shitpost.
>>
>>60909739
To add to that, you ain't gonna write your next fanfiction on it, but it beats a touch keyboard by miles thanks to being tactile.
>>
>>60909189
Stop shilling your overpriced, underpowered piece of shit.

It's inferior in literally every spec to the GPD Pocket and costs more too

Hard to say.
Software wise? Not much, already does what I wanted it for, mostly emulators and basic computer functions.
Hardware wise? Maybe built in 4G? Even though I use it so rarely and I have a USB stick for that. Maybe backlit keyboard? But the keyboard is perfectly visible with the screen on even in the dark.
Clickable R3 and L3 buttons would be something I guess, but the failure rate of the thumbsticks would increase dramatically.

I wasn't really expecting much, knowing it's hard to cram such shit into a small space. Pretty happy with the performance and battery life for the size.

Guess it's a thing that once there is something better, you will see the flaws of the old one more clearly, but then again, technology does progress.
>>
>>60910133
The Pocket is even more niche than the Win and it's price is pretty ridiculous.
But UMPCs from the past where no better for the state of what technology was in at the time they where made and where pretty darn expensive too.

Guess it's just something that you really need to have a use for.
>>
>>60910102
So people know that the screen is shit for watching content, but maybe decent for gaymen

does anyone remember the gole 1

They just have to use slightly more powerful hardware next time (although I partially blame intels for this) and fix the "shitty" shoulder buttons (shitty compared to high end controllers). Otherwise it's a neat little machine. I hope those chinks make a lot of money so we see more hardware from them.
>>
>>60910152
Interesting. I'm actually in the market for something like this I just want to get the right thing and not just keep churning. Right now my main mobile device is a Nexus 9 but I'm constantly being into its limitations and having to hand off to my laptop. I wish I either had something in between or a replacement for the Nexus. I tried using an Acer One 10 2-in1 but it just collects dust. Too slow to be really useful and with only 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage, it's practically worthless as a real laptop.
I see the GPD had enough RAM but the storage is eMMC which worries me. Maybe I should just get an X230t and be done.

>They just have to use slightly more powerful hardware next time (although I partially blame intels for this)
This is all related to what we can squeeze into the size.
The M3 line would be probably good go, it does use slightly more power though.
Hope it will just progress and we will have chips suitable for such applications.

>fix the "shitty" shoulder buttons (shitty compared to high end controllers)
They are perfectly fine if you ask me, they are digital compared to analog ones on actual controllers, but considering that the machine is quite thin and flat underneath, I don't think it could be much better. At least they are proper clicky switches. Good for emulators and FPS games, bad for racing games.

>>60910220
This isn't going to replace your smartphone for the most part.
It's more of something between a phone and laptop, if you don't care about gaming the Win is useless to just use as a UMPC, maybe the Pocket would be useful, but imo it's way too expensive for what it's worth.
>>
other than ebay, banggood, alibaba and geekbuy - where can i buy one?
>>
>>60910591
You can check out the places listed on their site
http://www.gpd.hk/buy.asp

I got mine from DragonBox (the shop run by the autist in >>60909521 picture), just because it was closer to ship and probably easier to deal in the end if I ended up with a shit unit. It was a little more expensive though.

I don't know about the units they sell now, but they did have horrible QC, so it was possible to get a crap unit that had something wrong with it.

>>60910632
thanks m8. i was going to buy a gpd xd from http://www.gpdxd.com/ but I wasn't sure if the site was legit.
I think the gpd win is a better option for me rather than the xd because i'll be able to run retroarch with emulationstation as a front end on the win model. i didn't see an option to use retroarch/emulationstation on the xd.

If you are interested in emulation, Android is a horrible choice anyways.
>>
>>60910695
Noice.

How's the keyboard? How's the trackpoint?
Battery life, temperature?
