When you have brand name, mindshare, and marketing you don't have to think, at least not for a while.
>>
>>60908405
They weren't expecting threadripper to come out let alone have 64 lanes available across all SKUs, and thought that they could get away with fleecing us even more.

Jizz instead of solder.
Anything above 10 cores releasing in October, letting Jewripper run unchallenged for months.
RAID keys.
1000$-2000$ price range to get full 44 lanes (still less than Jewripper all levels).
No idea wtf is Intel thinking.

amd will be 'competitive' nothing more, nothing less

This was fucking retarded when amd did it with ryzen, and Intel are a bunch of dumbfucks for copying this crap.

Only saving grace is the added PCI chipset lanes, but still this is fucking shit.

How fucking new are you, kid?
Go look at any of intel's prior HEDT platforms. They've had 28 lanes on the lower SKUs for years. Stupid /v/ children need to stay in their own board.

X79 had 40 lanes on all chips. X99 at least had a semi-decent option in the lower end for 40 lanes that wasnt 1000 fucking dollars. Now? Cough up or get bottlenecked goy.

Because that would demolish their margins.
Intel's CEO promised to shareholders to maintain their 60% operating margin on all their products. They will not be lowering prices to be competitive, instead they will happily concede marketshare.

Does this mean the 6900K and 6950X are still good?
>>
>>60915103

If you already own them. Yes.

If you don't just buy the 1800X.
>>
>>60915462
Is the 1700X any good compared to those two?

I'm thinking of building a new Ryzen PC so I can stream at 4K since my 6700K can't handle it, but I'm not sure if I should get a 1700X/1800X or wait for Threadripper.
>>
>>60915490
What will you be streaming?
You can also overclock a 1700 non x if you want to save a little more money.
>>
>>60908405
>people say intel won't even have to lower prices to compete with AMD's 'inferior' Ryzen
>A month later Intel blows its entire load on a fucking i9 x-series 'extreme' that STILL has jewed PCI lanes.
wew fuckin' lad
>>
It's funny because even though it was a power hog Bulldozer was still on par with i7's in multicore tasks, nobody cared because single core sucked and therefore games sucked. Now that Ryzen is out and AMD is viable for games again suddenly all Intel can do is talk about amazing multi-threaded performance for complex tasks! Wow this sure seems important all of a sudden for some reason, nice job marketing!
>>
>>60915490

1700X is fine. You get a little bit better binning to hit 4.0Ghz almost guaranteed. And the X just means it has auto-overclocking and voltage control depending on your case airflow and cooling set up.

The 1700 At 300 dollars is an amazing value. The R7s basically give you 99% of the performance of a 6950X ten core, for half the cost.

Threadripper is going to be expensive. But if you were contemplating a 6900 build then you would be better served by a 12 core Threadripper anyways for about the same cost.
>>
>>60915799
I'm really glad AMD is back but still kind of pissed it took them and Keller so fucking long, whatever at least they didn't fuck it up.

>>
>>60915618
Money isn't too much of an issue for me.

>>60915799
I was thinking of going with the 16c32t Threadripper and keeping it for 10+ years unless something as good came out within that time period.

Intel is disappointing me a lot at the moment. I was going to get a 7700K, but then I read about how it heats up at stock speeds and decided against it. I'm still rather wary about AMD since it hasn't been good for practically 18 years, but I think I might end up switching sides because it's better at the moment.
>>
>>60915876
>Money isn't too much of an issue for me.

What will you be streaming. You might not even need extra cores yet depending on what you run now, and waiting for the next gen CPUs might make more sense.
>>
>>60915927
League of Legends, Overwatch, etc., at 4K.
>>
>>60915876
Wait for next year then if you want to keep it a long time. Zen+ is getting even higher IPC refinement, as well as switching to the 7nm node for even higher clockspeed. It will be like going from Nehalem i7-920 to to Sandy Bridge i7 2600k in performance.
>>
>>60915964
Zen2 is Q3 2018 at best. Good shit GloFo is going SANIC FAST with their 7nm LP node.

>Wtf were they thinking?
