The problem is Canadas size and population density. Europeans pay so little because their country is 1/10 the size of BC with the population of all of Canada. Sometimes it costs extra to live in the best country in the world.

You really missed the point. Sure there are areas in Canada with higher population density but it doesn't change that our infrastructure has to cover such a broad area with so few customers in total. If you travel through Europe with a sim you'll notice that your cheap data hardly covers an area 1/6th the area of Alberta, Think Switzerland or Germany, and the moment you cross the boarder, they start charging you roaming.

I'm on public mobile. 55$ a month for 4gb of data, over 3months. Great service, no problems so far and 6 months in.
Only problem is that it's hard to talk to a real person, most of the stuff for setting up accounts is self serve. Also they don't sell phones so you need to use an unlocked one, or a telus locked phone will work.

Tldr; I recommend it
>>
>>60905774

I live in europoor country and pay less than 10 dollars for 5 gb. You Americans are retarded.
>>
The worst part is this is the most expensive data has ever been. You used to be able to get unlimited data plans for around 60 a month back in the days of the early iPhone.
Heck I think my brother is still on 6gb a month with Rogers for 40 or so.
Total bullshit that they can't afford slightly lower prices. Those dick holes in Ottawa can't stand any none Canadian competition so three companies and left to price fix to their hearts content.

Even when the government tried to help by forcing all carriers to 2 year contracts instead of 3, all the prices immediately jumped up 20%.

>>60907188
The only parts of the country that are covered are the ones where there is sufficient population density and paying customers. The whole "muh broad area, muh no customers" argument is just ridiculous. Look at Ontario; outside the densely populated southern regions (where there still continue to be cellular dead zones; it is impossible to get more than 1 bar at my parents' house in Guelph) there are only thin bands of cellular networks stretched along Highway 11 and Highway 17. There are more than enough people give the size of the network to cover infrastructure costs, the reason why cellular costs are so high is the same reason why internet is so expensive. Because Canadian telecom companies are protected from foreign competition and extract as much as they possibly can in an oligopolistic market environment.

>t. Dad worked for Bell and told me first hand about how overpaid everyone was right up to the executives

Wean yourself off of those "free" or "$100" phones you dumb ass.

There are *lots* of deals around, people are just too lazy or too stupid to change their providers.

I personally am on the Koodo 8 gig plan for $56/month, was on a virgin mobile 6 gig plan for $50/month before that.

Wind/freedom Mobile sucks for data, my dad switched to it (from one of the big 3 providers) and within 3 days was complaining how slow it is.
But now that Shaw owns it, they can run it properly as they won't be starved for cash.

Yes it is, although there are several large ISPs in the country they just stay in their own regions and not rock the boat.
Some countries in the world mandate that their large ISPs must wholesale access to their lines to spur competition, I know Canada and England do that.
In the same way Ting might buy wholesale access to the Sprint wireless network, Widget ISP buys access to the Bell/Rogers network and providers an alternative to consumers.
as far as i know the US has nothing like that in place.

hahaha what
rogers owns chatr and chatr offers 2gb for $40 a month
it's only 3g speeds but still

freedom mobile is offering 8GB and unlimited everything for $60 (but lte only works on literally a dozen phones in existence right now)

>retards that live in the middle of nowhere
I live in the Silicon Valley, walking distance from Google HQ, and my Internet is expensive and slow.

Where the fuck would I have to live to be able to complain about this?
>>
Canada Rogers biz plan: $75 unlimited talk, text, 5gb.

Why doesn't T Mobile come buy some Canada telecoms?
>>
>>60920187
because the american companies don't want a fucking thing to do with us

and the ones that do get bitchslapped by the CRTC and told to fuck off

If you run a dual sim phone you can get a pretty decent phone set up in Canada for cheap.

Evenings and weekends PAYG plan(1 cent a minute during evenings and weekends) with unlimited texting - $10
3GB Tablet data plan - $8

I never call anyone, so my monthly bill is always under $20cnd. I have to have a dual-sim phone(Zuk Z2) but thats also cheap as fuck for pretty amazing specs($220cnd for specs that are as good as a Galaxy S7).

Id be happier with unlimited everything for $35, as many yanks get, but $20 for what i have isnt too horrible.
>>
I have a Freedom Mobile unlimited plan from the Wind days. $35 a month for unlimited everything. Might switch to Rogers tho, my dad has a corporate discount on a Share Everything plan that I can get in on if I want.

wat do?

Same, I was moved from Mobilicity to chatr so I have Rogers coverage with unlimited talk, text, and 6 GB of 3G before getting throttled.
>>
>>60911230
i have 40 hours of national roaming, unlimited roaming texts, and 1gb of lte before it gets throttled ("unlimited" roaming data) included. i'm not saying the normal priced plan is anything special but with that promo code, i now have access to rogers, bell, and telus' networks in addition to winds for 43$ a month. also 8gb lte and unlimited NA calling, international texts while connected to wind. search for "freedom code" on kajiji. got mine for 50$.

I live in the GTA, is there some kind of tier chart or infographic doing a tl;dr on all these companies? I want to leave Rogers. Need good data and good signal. Do any companies ever offer free iPhones? My iPhone 4 is not cutting it and I'm not very demanding.

Why do t you try googling it instead of begging for answers on 4chan.

You guys missed the Pmobile 40 a month plan. They offered double the data, so 4GB for 40 moosebucks. Only thing is provincial calling, but you still have Canada wide texting. You guys should watch out for that, they might bring the plan back this year.
