The beauty of Thunderbolt over USB-C is that you can have any port you desire, instead of having a machine that has ports you don't even want. The useless to me VGA port on my current ThinkPad would preferably be an extra USB port. Transitional pains, its a laptop for the future. If you buy something with no USB-C/Thunderbolt today, it'll feel very dated in 3 years.
