theoretical question:
if i have a 144hz **gaming monitor** can i clock it to a higher than 144hz refresh rate? Something like 180 - 200HZ. Don't worry about the GPU, let's say its capable of outputting over 300FPS in game.
can this be done?

every monitor should be able to be clocked higher using custom resolution utility in either NoVidya or AyyMD control panel. I clocked my SyncMaster T220 to 75Hz from base 60, but I suppose it should work with 144Hz ones too. However don't expect to get it too high, artifacts will appear if you choose wrong mode or set it too high. I'd say it could go up to 20Hz more at best, but you never know.
