Capitalism can only thrive with as little as possible government regulations and intervention, where wages and prices are determined by the market and competition. A cyberpunk dystopian hell is where corps and state merge, where there is no competition and prices and wages are determined by a single entity, just like a communist society. Capitalism is a friend of cyberpunk, its a friend of the people.
>>
>>60890271
In a communist society their isn't supposed to be a state or corparations though. USSR (Union of Soviet SOCIALIST republics) had this as a hazy end goal.

Say everything you want, but if government all over the world would cease to exist, in the current conditions shit like Blackwater would put corporation controlled governments in place. So we should deal with that shit first.
>>
>>60890271
In communism the state is supposed to acurately represent the people through direct democracy. Its not a seperate entity it more like a collective.
>>
>>60890321
in the USSR the state owned everything, which is why my family fled to a better place because they wanted to run their own businesses for the sake of gettin that gwap, in order to raise the living standards for themselves and their children. The smartest thing they've ever done.

the whites were decentralized and all wanted different things, that's why they lost
some wanted to restore the monarchy, some wanted a monarchy with a parliament, some wanted to be monarchs, others wanted a republic, a democracy... they all had different visions and there was a lot of infighting
one thing they all were though was anti socialist (so anti fascist by their very nature, which is good), anti semite and traditional (which is very good), and by no means as authoritarian as the soviets who genocided, and all but erased one of the grandest, one of the most prominent European cultures off the face of the earth
>>
>>60890486
>corporate tyranny
lets say I'm a CEO, I can only stay in business if I provide goods and services to my customers, I can only produce goods and services by hiring people and paying them, I can only hire people by providing them with better opportunities than the CEO across the street who's trying to keep his business afloat, my customers will only remain if I provide them with goods and services of higher quality and cheaper price than the competition, and the same goes for the CEO across the street
that's not even scratching the surface but you get the idea
what part of that cycle is in any way tyrannical?

>>60890463
there are plenty of greedy individuals within the corporate world who deserve nothing short of a culling

>>
>>60891037
the more you give the more you'll get, selfishness has no place in our society

I always refer to what I call the farmer cycle
see, a farmer grows food, employs people, pays for all the supplies (they all have to come from somewhere too), distribution networks use trucks, planes, boats to distribute the produce, merchants sell the produce, restaurant owners buy it and the cooks they employ prepare it, the waiters serve it to the corner booth where our friend the farmer is sitting, thus completing the cycle. That is what capitalism is all about, that is why its so beautiful... its a natural system.
and this clearly so much better and smarter than everyone else motherfucker wants a free meal

Hike taxes for no reason.
Putting people in prison and convicting them for speaking their mind.
Starving the poor by removing aid.
Fighting wars and proxy wars for no obvious reason (corporate greed).
So you want plumbing and electricity?

>>
>>60891874
alright, so why are you anti capitalism?
a smaller government, less regulation = a healthy competitive market, employment for all, and a less authoritarian government
tf is your problem?

>>60891897
freedoms is the best
>>
>>60891921
Because, at the moment, capitalism is only serving to strengthen the elites, corporations and governments that want to take our freedoms.
To fight for freedoms, even if you have to live in an uncomfortable situation EVEN FOR A GENERATION, is worth it.
Not to mention, smaller government and less regulation isn't the issue, governments are more corrupt than they've ever been before.
As proven, it doesn't work like that, laissez-faire economics is a pipe dream and only worked in the '80s (in the US) because they sacrificed longevity and the political and socioeconomic climate has changed (Wall Street Crash).
Also, many smaller corporations aren't the issue; they tend to the ones who hire native employees.
Larger corporations, the ones that are an issue and CONTROL Western capitalism hire external workers, because they're cheaper.
So no, laissez-faire economics doesn't work to create a HEALTHY MARKET (only temporary) and probably wouldn't work in the first place and certainly not for the long time; it causes what is termed a bubble.
What would be better, is tearing down capitalism and the elites, corporations and governments with them and start again.
>>
>>60891982
>hire external workers, because they're cheaper
exporting labor has its own costs
often times its cheaper due to government regulations on hiring locally, if not for insane regulations the cost would even out, exporting labor means importing product, which isn't free
and yes I agree that the majority of the people on top are total scum, deserve nothing short of a public execution, and the only ones that will survive an entire system meltdown
the only way to go after them is personally and individually
tearing down the system will hurt the people you're fighting for the most
we don't live in a utopia, there are and will be problems, but the capitalist way of doing something in order to get something in return, is the best and most natural idea we've ever had

No.

Capitalism requires a large degree of openness and accountability while most of the CYB stories are set in a world where companies wield the powers and government is hardly visible. Those scenarios are closer to corporativism or fascism, where you cannot slip even a cigarette paper between companies and governments.

Are you the same poster who wanted to break into the infosec industry?

If so, you sound woefully under prepared.

Anyway, a SOC is a security operations centre. They monitor traffic flowing in and out of particular companies, and flag anything that looks suss for investigation using their automated software that identifies threats.

That, is entry level security work.

Pen testing requires a miriad of skills you will NOT have as an entry level candidate, and you wont be put into testing live environments as someone with no skills.

Wondering if I could get any help from anons here, I got a background as an IT engineer (fixing computers n servers n sheet)

Training company offers me compTIA Networking+ And compTIA security+ courses.

They say I will be able to get jobs with these.
Every job advert for things like security analyst that I see wants shit like ISO27001 CISA CISM CISSP knowlage/qualifications.

They bullshitting me /g/?
>>
>>60910112
>CISSP
Look it up. You cant get it until you have 5 years of experience. Its part of the requirements to pass.

Youre just looking at jobs too far above your skillset. You need to go to a SOC.
>>
>>60910215
>SOC (Security operations center)
Its likely thats the kind of position they were talking about. I know security+ is entry level. Just wondering if thats all I would need to get into a basic cyber security job.

Thanks for help as well anon. Appreciate it.
>>
>>60910262
>Just wondering if thats all I would need to get into a basic cyber security job
Well what did you need to get into your current role? I imagine really it was being able to pass their interview, yeah?
>>
>>60910287
Pretty much. Before my current job all I had done is slap a PC together for gaming.

Now its full hardware/software repair for PC and some networking, They said I could probably skip the basic compTIA qualifications because I already have the experience.
>>
>>60910430
the cybers arent some magical, mythical realm you need to be top guns of your field to get a look in.

before you got your job, you probably thought server engineering was a mythical unicorn of a job youd never get into because it sounds so hard and special.

look at what you just said. you built a gaming pc once then got to strip servers. its not like youre a person whose never seen a computer before applying for the cyber job.
>>
>>60910460
Oh I understand that. I know I am well within the realm of learning what I need to.

I am just trying to avoid paying for courses only to find out that my way (aka SOC's) want more then just networking+/security+.

This training company is saying that those qualifications will get me a job but im not sure if I should trust them, all sounds too good to be true.
>>
>>60910608
Sadly you and the other guy put too much stock into what SOC/NOCs are like.

You will be churning tickets like a robot. Its a job ripe for automation replacement. You dont get to do sexy and cool shit, thats forensics, security engineers, those sorts of people.

Youll watch your ticket monitoring system, and escalate when required, and report false positives.

You dont need many qualifications because you dont do much.

But it is the first step into the infosec field.
>>
>>60909465
Well, he mentioned
>having a high burnout rate
so he is right to look before he jumps.

>>60909445
>I have 2 years experience in Business Intelligence, and have Python/bash/SQL, so seeing where I can leverage that best
Isn't that massively overqualified for this line of work?

Get some experience, get clearance, and then look for work in three letter agencies or Electronic Warfare units including net war. A command of a foreign language is also a huge plus.
>>
>>60910692
>A command of a foreign language is also a huge plus

please do not lead him down the wrong stream
>>
>>60909723
I have the same book, in digital format.
I thought it was pretty good.
>>
>>60910631
Then what the heck are those compTIA qualifications really good for? I mean they must be useful to gain access to some sort of job.

As you say its clearly not needed for entry level SOC type jobs, And the jobs google says its good for actually ask for things like CISSP level knowlage.

Im guessing there is some middle ground But im just having a hard time finding it.

There is overlap since many signals carry "cyber" data. Even GPS data is full of data frames with a lot of information, probably not all of which is fully disclosed.

Also: not all adversaries communicate in English.

Hi /cyb/ + /sec/ gen,
(I don't browse this board and I've almost never used GNU/Linux so please don't bully)
I have a laptop from 2009, a Dell Inspiron 1545 running windows Vista and since I'm more and more concerned with privacy and security I would like to install a clean OS and learn how to protect myself.
I'm comfortable with how computers work but I've never dug into anything else but Windows.
What do you suggest for my old laptop?
(I've read the pastebins in the OP and that flowchart on how to pick your distro but I don't trust quick meme infographics)
Basically I want my old laptop to run smooth with a well documented OS so I can be autonomous in a few weeks.

Well, there is now. There is systemd.

On one hand, devuan doesn't have it and is basically a drop-in replacement. On the other hand, making an informed decision about systemd is probably asking too much of a total beginner, so going with debian and reading about it later is also a perfectly good option.

>centralized government
>no direct control over decisions
>yet again SOMEONE has to create the algorithms
I know some of the people supporting things like this, but they have no idea over how to accomplish what they want.

To tell you a secret I promise to make an algorithmic decision systems for an organization like this, it isn't easy.

BBC - Culture - Why thousands of teens ran away from home in the 1960s
http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20170615-when-all-the-children-ran-away

In particular this paragraph:
>Even after the communes were dissolved, their radical designs endured – and fuelled the corporate forces that they once opposed. In 2016, both Apple and Google revealed plans for new headquarters in Silicon Valley, with designs strikingly evocative of an earlier vision of the future. This shift from counterculture to cyberculture was incubated by Stewart Brand’s influential Whole Earth Catalog, published regularly between 1968-71. Steve Jobs described the Catalog as “Google in paperback form”, and its offices were housed in a moveable geodesic dome. This style became known as ‘hippie modernism’, defined by soft and circular shapes, in contrast to the hard-edged, inflexible buildings associated with bureaucratic modernism. But while Apple and Google’s plans adopt the designs of free communal association, their spaces are privatised – a commons only for the few.

they're all hackable so just use throwaway machines and replace them every few months. keep your real machine offline forever.

>>
>>60923340
>ran away
mass kidnapping, never seen or heard from and forced drug addition isn't an idyll life in a commune, you have to be retarded to think that.

Well, the BBC is very careful not to state things they do not have unshakeable sources for.

Also, as often is the case the utopia was a scam but teenagers are often naive about realities, especially when they came from sheltered backgrounds and used lyrics as main input about the state of the world.

What is the point of this?

>China's quantum satellite in big leap - BBC News

>The term "spy satellite" has taken on a new meaning with the successful test of a novel Chinese spacecraft.
>The mission can provide unbreakable secret communications channels, in principle, using the laws of quantum science.

What's stopping these individuals from astroturfing their way out of negative consensus? Hypothetically they have their hands in every (social) media out there.
>>
>>60929571
Because I think it is safer a loud secret than a covered one.

I mean, as secret societies are actually real, which is in doubt are their effect on real world. So you let people believe that you're society does things (which you can or cannot do) instead of denying it.

Like the iluminaty webpage.

nobody uses it, it was created by 4chan, and there wasn't a client that actually worked fully through tor for years

its a newer project that attempts to do what ricochet has had solved for forever now, except to protect against metadata it does its own onion router because it abandoned goals of using tor because it was slow and they couldn't code well enough to even use ricochet as a guide to solve the problems
