Utter crap. Use VLC. It has minimal interface.

That's weird, are you using the win backend or something exotic?
>>

Everyone cares about good software, and good software does one job and does it good.

>>60882690
First of all, autism is not a bad thing, it's a matter of lifestyle and dedication to the art of computer programming. Second, GUIs today are generally bloated and bad, but Wayland might fix things (it's much better than X11). I don't have a firm opinion on either VLC or mpv, just because I practically don't use it, just for porn when the internet goes out. VLC is just more intuitive for casual use.
>>
>>60882788
compiler does it good. with all standards. no bit hacking
>>
Oh I just notice IGV removed his faux-HDR/Bloom algorithm!
>>
>>60882794
GCC is a bloated piece of shit and clang is even worse. Use TCC. Also, it's good for general understanding to make your own assembler/linker and finally at least some parts of compiler.

A fully compliant, that is, adhering to all standards C hello world is no more than 1kB. GCC spits out 6 on my machine with all size optimizations turned on. This is unacceptable and a clear sign of bad application (GCC), when making a small executable is trivial
>>
Just notice they are talking about HDR10 on IRC.

It looks like VLC distort the colors in the screenshots:
https://diff.pics/c1kBQHVig7om/1

If you compare then side by side(like pic related) you can see that mpv and vlc have similar color reproduction.

Also you're comparing a jpg(mpv) vs a png(vlc), if you want to make a comparison use png in both screenshots.
>>
>>60885297
Why GPU usage is higher though if it doesn't work? Or it works (calculations and so on) -> higher GPU usage -> but it doesn't affect the picture because no scaling?

I'm new to this whole thing and also incredibly sleep deprived, so all of this is very confusing for me. Is there a definitive guide for mpv beginners that I can read after I wake up?

On Linux, you just have to make a file named mpv.conf and put it on
~/.config/mpv/
. Windows should have something similar to it on your home folder or program files folder as well. I would advise you to read some configs posted ITT and search up the options on https://mpv.io/manual/master/. If you don't want to tinker with anything, just put
profile=opengl-hq
on your mpv.conf and move on. There are many examples ITT, pick the one that looks less convoluted to your tastes.

In a similar fashion, there's an input.conf as well if you don't like the keyboard defaults.
Here's an example:
#seeking
RIGHT seek 0.5
LEFT seek -0.5
Ctrl+RIGHT frame-step
Ctrl+LEFT frame-back-step
PGUP add chapter -1
PGDWN add chapter 1 # skip to next chapter

#for playlists/next file

Ctrl+Shift+F5 no-osd screenshot window # ...with subtitles and OSD, and scaled

#cycle audio

#cycle subtitles
s cycle sub # cycle through subtitles

# cycle video aspect ratios; "-1" is the container aspect
r cycle-values video-aspect "16:9" "4:3" "2.35:1" "-1"

Luma and chroma is not something you can download.
Read:

It's basically how to video is composed.
What the shaders do is to upscale this two different parts of the video

Add this to your input.conf
z cycle-values window-scale "0.25" "0.5" "1.0" "2.0"
z can be whatever key you want to bind the command to, case sensitive. The numbers are the zoom amount, set them to whatever size and order you wish.

Nice counter argument fag.
Even madshi says that nnedi3 is the second best upscaler(NGU being the first) available in madvr.
He made NGU to achieve(or surpass) the quality of nnedi3 while also being more resource efficient.

Tried superres, still crashed. I'm almost convinced the problem is caused by mesa now. Since it happens with any
opengl-shaders
option, I think it's either the GPU or the way mesa interacts with my GPU. Anyone else having similar problems?
>>
>>60907882
Actually, resizing the window freezes any video, stream or recording. Guess I'll have to do some digging.
>>
>>60907990
Funny you sould say that, in my case, youtube-dl can only buffer like 2 seconds of video on twitch and then stops for like a second and buffers w seconds again. Works perfectly in-browser and on streamink.
>>
>>60908012
youtube-dl is shit for watching streams
>>
>>60907925
Some times more close, some times - less, but nnedi3 is like 4-6 times slower + oil painting.
>>
How the fuck do I report driver bugs? Do I report it to amdgpu or to mesa? No logs detect the problem since my computer reboots when shaders are enabled.
