My department is getting rid of these promotional 4gb partioned flash drives because their software is old. I picked up 40 hoping to find a good use for them. Any ideas?

DEADDROPS

It's a novel way of fire sharing where you attach an USB drive somewhere and pin it on a map.

Just find a nook or cranny put the USB stick on it and secure it with cement

different music genres, i was thinking of getting my toddler nephew a bunch of microSD in different colors so she can listen to beatles or kenny g, or instrumental stuff without having to use the tiny vfd display on the headphones i gave her.

so something similar you can do with 40 flashs, attach a tag to each in big letters with artist or genre, so your grandmother can just plug it on her usb radio, you know she just doesnt use it because she can never find what she wants on 64GB sdcard you put there when you gifted her the radio.

also make several rescue bootcds and give to normies
>>
>>60877472
Don't do this, idiots like my dad always fall for it and then blame me when the files get corrupted.
>>
Put different bootable os on each one with label Kali partedmagic etx
>>
>>60876182
Well, technically Macs are immune so I guess you could access one that way. Though nothing would save you if someone had hooked the "dead drop" to mains power.

Also those USB killers are expensive and I imagine that after one person's device was ruined they just take a hammer to the "dead drop"

DON'T DO THIS.
It literally gave me AIDS.

The website told me there was one planted under a sort of cement bench, so I reached underneath with my hand to locate it and instead I got stung by a syringe needle, which, a few months later I discovered was infected by HIV.
I still technically don't have AIDS, but it's likely that my HIV infection will give it to me sooner or later.

Never again.

Flash RAID
Flash JBOD
Either are fun ideas.

Even more so if you experiment with turning a USB hub in to a hardware RAID-ish dealio.
It wouldn't be exact, though. You'd need to mirror all writes to all drives, and concat reads from all drives so that if one fails, the majority average will still result in a correct read.
Dealing with failures would be an task for you to learn.
Also dealing with re-imaging a new drive.
So you would need to do the writes and reads in such a way that you can still interact with a single drive in the event you need to check state or re-image.

Although I'd be lying if I said it's not tempting. There's 10 that's a walking distance away from me.

I'd probably drop some files for myself though. Sounds like an interesting experiment.

that hasnt been true for a couple decades anon, usb exploits included, if thats why you bot a fagbookpro.
its was only something ppl used to say in early 90s because no one had macs, or at least outside the usa, maybe because windows was even shittier but still...

if dead drop is a passive storage, couldnt you just plug a led or a piece of steeel wool to see if its electrified?

or microSD to allow any sort of pocket arm computer to use it with some flatcable extender to the microsd port, and laptop could use such a cable attached to a SDcard inside the laptop slot

not if raid was done on the hub, a single link usb2 is 40mbytes/s, generic flash write ~= 5mb/s, it could work

(that pic is probably just a hub ofc)
