There was something to be said for being able to easily take your saves to a friend's house, but god those cards were dumb.

Also, the occasional buggy game demo that deleted the contents of your memory cards.

Look at Jerryrigeverything on Youtube, you can convert the latest samsungs and lgs into transparent phones without having to buy anything. Basically the black colored glass on the back is just a layer of glass covered by a colored sticker that is glued onto it from the inside. Pull it off and it's a clear case.

I was pretty stoked and am pretty amazed by it.

>>
>>60870155
what did i wrote, fag?
>>
From a hardware standpoint, the best consumer PS2 would be the PSX as that one has 4MB of IOP memory instead of 2MB. This extra RAM could be used for OPL as it wouldn't have to share memory with games, greatly improving compatibility as well as leaving room for other stuff such as better IGS. The DECKARD PS2 models could theoretically be even better than that, however that would require to break out of the emulation and run native PPC code instead which hasn't been done yet.
The best PS2 overall would however be the GScube. PS2 games often looked like shit, mostly because they had to use low res textures as well as framebuffers to fit into 4MB of VRAM, which was made even worse by not having any native hardware texture compressor. Each blade in GScube had 32MB of VRAM instead, completely solving this issue as you could replace the textures with higher res ones as well as bump the rendering resolution in some cases.

OPL has PSX-specific functionality? That's pretty rad. How much of an advantage would DECKARD support be though?

It doesn't as far as I'm concerned, mostly because nobody has it. The biggest advantage of DECKARD would be fast USB/ETH mode, putting them maybe even on par with HDD (USB 2.0 with a proper FAT32 driver or full 100Mbit ethernet) with no compatibility issues from excessive use of memory as DECKARD has 4MB of RAM as well.

The DS doesn't have GB/C hardware. You can emulate with GameYob though, it works great.

From the source

>Most Americans don't realise that each PlayStation unit contains a 32-bit CPU - every bit as powerful as the processor found in most desktop and laptop computers," one unnamed military intelligence source told WND. "Beyond that, the graphics capabilities of a PlayStation [2] are staggering - five times more powerful than that of a typical graphics workstation, and roughly 15 times more powerful than the graphics cards found in most PCs."
>15 times more powerful than the graphics cards found in most PCs."

Holy shit, PC eternally BTFO. Seriously though,
was the PS2 really powerful in comparison against 2000 PCs?
>>
>>60871640

Playstation consoles are always designed to produce bullshit theoretical specs that will never be practical. In the PS2's case, it was bottlenecked by the crushingly small 4MB of VRAM.
If you want something to blame for blurry textures and sub-480i resolutions, blame the VRAM.

It was nice to mod. Xbox Media Center came from that (thanks to the leaked SDK), which they later shorted to XBMC and much later renamed to Plex when they wanted to try to get away from the pirate rep it had had since, you know, the very beginning.

Development was quite fun on the PSX too, thanks to the cartridge port in early models and things like FCD's X-ploder's bitbanging parallel port X-Link, and Caetla.

Remember the buffer overflow in the PS2's memory card name parsing - which happened on boot and allowed for seamless softmodding? Actually discovered by accident as I found a corrupted PS2 save that reliably froze the system and wondered why - but passed the details onto others who developed it further, as I could never get the drive reading burned discs reliably unless it had read an original first without being opened (turned out this was due to shit lasers, as Taiyo-Yuden cyanine CD-R and DVD+R media worked fine). Think they were Chinese. Don't care, they paid.

>>60871679
Bottlenecked in gaming, maybe, but for specialised workloads (that didn't need much precision) you might be able to have some fun with it.

>>60871469
Ironically, it's PS3s you really wanted for that, as the Cell was pretty good at crypto crunching, before GPUs and their shaders started to dominate the field. The US Air Force actually did that and were very, very pissed off at the later firmware update removing the stuff they needed to run Linux on their cluster, so they commissioned, well, a solution to their issue.

A solution was duly delivered.

>>
>>60871698
>1080i
In order to achieve that you had to render 1920x270x16bpp at 120fps. So yes, it was quite a huge bottleneck.
>>
>>60871868
>1920x270x16bpp at 120fps
wut
>>
>>60871920
It's interlaced, the full 1080 frame consist of 2 fields containing even and odd pixels (540 lines each) which also needed to be split in first half and second half (270 lines) so it would fit into PS2's 4MB of VRAM. This meant that in order to render a full 1080 frame at 30 FPS you had to render those 270 line parts at 120 FPS.
