Can I listen to videos with the screen turned off?

I love this app, and the spirit of its development.

There is one feature I miss tho. possibility to unlock autorotation in the apps settings. But still have a rotation lock button during the video playback.
I use my phone in portrait mode, but when I watch a video full screen, I do it in landscape, it would be nice if i would not have to press the rotate button every time.

That is true, but I would love to have a system independent rotation possibility. I keep my rotation locked in system settings, but I would like to unlock rotation separately in Newtube. Just like quickPic does this.

Just tried out skytube but it was kinda disappointing to be desu. It's missing the audio-only mode and downloading function what together is pretty much a deal breaker if all you do on youtube is listening to music and downloading it to repeat the same song 50 times without using all ya data. I would also miss the pop up mode which is very usefull when someone links a song and you wanna just play it and keep chatting without opening another app. But I guess skytube is better if you just need a foss substitute for the official app to watch vlogs or social experiment videos or something.

Also, newpipe is still in beta and the dev actually stated in the description on f-droid that it's far from finished so let's just enjoy what we have and hype everytime it gets improved

The problem with these wrappers is, that as they get more features and get more complicated, they get exponentially harder to maintain.
For example, if google changes one thing about the website that the app parses, it might break many things in the app in unexpected ways.
Best idea is to keep it simple.
