what you're describing is Windows Vista. XP was decent too, except for questionable aesthetic and no search in start menu.
Windows 7 was also decent, but a bit less consistent than Vista.
8 was just plain retarded, but could be mostly fixed. 10 is just distilled shit in the purest form.
