Not on a mobile contract, but I do have a 4G router:
Cost: 27€
Data plan: Unlimited bandwidth
Speed: 150/50mbps (90/45 according to speedtests)
Carrier: Tele2

Monthly Cost: $3 prepaid T-Mobile
Cost of Sim Card: ~$15?
Cost of phone: Used Samsung Note 4, free, plan to keep it until the CPU dies so probably 10 years.
Total: Basically three dollars.

Contracts don't exist in my country. Anyway, I'm paying $5 a month for uncapped data, gotta buy a new phone to experience dem LTE Advanced speeds. The only cons are that my provider blocks tethering(but it's possible to bypass) and shapes torrent traffic(I just use a VPN if I for some reason need to torrent something from my phone).

nexus 5x = 300euro / 48 = 6.25 per month.
sim = 4 euros a month
total = 10.25 euros a month.

I expect to keep the phone longer though, the galaxy nexus lasted me 5 years, but we'll see.
