This thread is a good illustration of the folly of pattern recognition. A neural net (as with any computer program) doesn't truly think, feel, or perceive, it is only an automaton that picks up on patterns (what color goes with what shapes).
Here on /g/ we know that there are certain types of people ("pajeets", for example) that don't truly think, they just blithely repeat patterns in a way that creates a filthy mess, especially when it comes to programming.
When you only go by pattern recognition, you will inevitably see monsters.

Your pattern matching skills are noticeably influenced by 4chan's input, anon. You are kind of a weird bot.

Humans only go by patterns to. We're just better at it.

If this were true I would only know how to shill for Apple/Linux.
>>60849008
This simply isn't true, and if you think it is one day a computer will make you obsolete.
Giving myself an extra jowl on the right side of my face was a mistake, but I'm still impressed.

meat hats remind me of a thought i often had as a kid. could you cut off a buttcheek, hollow it out, and stretch it over your head as a beanie? i don't think this has ever been experimented with, but anyone willing to sacrifice their buttcheeks please PM me.
Edit: wow this blew up. thanks for the gold!

>humans go beyond pattern recognition
We don't actually. Everything we consider intelligence is making decisions based on information and sets of rules or previous experience.
It is just such deep pattern matching that we don't perceive it as such anymore.
NN can theoretically achieve human intelligence but it's not really feasible right now. As you can see with even these simple challenges and the resources available to the computer (iteration speed especially) the results are very mediocre.
It's almost certain that a customized solution to this problem would perform better in the short term.
NN as it is right now is for optimization. If you had something that decently created nicer portraits from these drawings you could sprinkle some NN on top and it might improve.

Pork, pigs have remarkably similar flesh/organs to us, even moreso than great apes. Burning human flesh is often described as having a distinctly pork-esque smell.

We have 10^15 neurons or something.
The neural networks are not that large, it would take a lot of computer power to train something like that.
I wish I could upload an image.

This is most likely true. Did you know people can learn to develop emotional intelligence (in this case, meaning improving their ability to handle emotions as well as developing the various kinds of emotions that come with it) when they are logically intelligent enough? Pattern recognition is a natural ability of the human brain simply because the brain has evolved to adapt to that ability. With sufficiently complex hardware (which many suppose will basically just be something very similar to the biological brain with organic matter, simply because that form is the most optimal form the hardware can assume), and with enough input and enough repetition to adapt to the information received, an AI can learn to develop emotions, too. The only problem is the nature of emotion is far more complex than one would normally suspect. In the end it's all just chemical and physical, and pattern recognition is just the beginning to that long long journey for matters to develop intelligence.
