is this the wakeup call for someone finally doing something about this?
since mass boycotts never work

No. Security will remain shit forever.

well that didn't take long...
in the meantime, download the intel tool to see if you're vulnerable
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26755
sadly, any patch will only be available from OEM or mobo manufacturer, not directly from intel

>not using a tin foil hat
lol just wait for someone to use intel me with this and basically run an entire os in ancillary hardware
>>60835758
what's scary is there's no way to know it's even there or doing anything while running your regular OS (windows/linux/bsd/whatev)
frankly I hope there's nothing in the shadow brokers next release against this. we'll find out by mid july though.

Where can I find a list of vulnerable CPUs or mobos?
>>60836236
>is it made by intel
>yes, then it's vulnerable
>no, then it's probably botnetted by something else
>>60836236
you can run the tool, that's the quick way...

I haven't found an exhaustive list of chipsets, but it's mostly Q chipsets as far as this preliminary list goes
https://communities.intel.com/thread/33256
(old thread from 2012)
there's other factors than active management technology. there's also vpro, and whether AMT is provisioned. lots of intel chipsets have management engine, but that alone is insufficient.

I'm actually ok with this. if the choice is between choosing malware authors to protect from privacy vulnerabilities in my hardware and the nsa who put them in I trust the malware devs more.
