ESET Smart Security and getting license keys from Facebook for 7 years+ and longer than that I was using crack apps which got further keys more secure which was not possible to find on Google (before ESET intentionally flagged the said apps as malware and started cracking down on leaked licenses more than they had done before that point).

Main preference was ESET Nod32 (Smart Security later on) was first one I used after dropping Norton for using too much hardware resources and being ineffective.

Had seen AVG on another PC at the time but kept detecting false virus alerts with warez I was downloading frequently which was not an issue with ESET.

To date ESET protected me on many different occasions where my PC should have needed a reformat and reinstall of Windows (works/ effective), uses less hardware resources too and false virus alerts have almost always been less frequent.

Had Kaspersky where it's performance was similar or consistent (no short comings I noticed but no significantly better features or performance when tested a long time ago), but stuck to ESET Smart Security out of preference.

I don't have any installed, I even turned off windows defender they all are too annoying.
If I get a virus I just run adwcleaner and download malwarebytes to scan the pc and then I uninstall it.

Seperating windows from the internet. Not perfect but a good starting point. Scan files going into and out from windows in a vm. Export clones of your windows vm at various times. If things get fucked delete the fucked vm and load your clone...virus gone. Host OS should be encrypted. Do your browsing in your host. Run the windows version of antivirus in the vm though. It's not too bad.
