Why can't PC manufacturers design such an efficient, quiet and powerful air cooling system?

PC tech is like 4 years behind.

it will throttle. The whole idea of using laptop internals to build desktop computers and pretty much having the worst of both worlds for the sake of looking pretty it's stupid.
I get it if you need a desktop computer to update your facebook status but in that case I would highly recommend you get a macbook instead, at least you can carry that one around with you.

No fucking way that tiny ass heatsink is going to effectively dissipate what is going to be at least 300w worth of power at the minimum without sounding like a jet engine, god forbid if that xeon has a non-soldered heat spreader.

>>60829993
Luckily mosfets can handle in excess of 125C, might not be the best for the life of them, but there the most hardy component on the board when it comes to temp

Not saying its a good design. Just saying it shouldn't catch on fire but for 5k there should be a heatsink even if its a small one

Amazing. So the air before entering the fans is ice cold and exits the machine piping hot? Is that what I'm supposed to take away from this?

Question, I am really interested in the new 13" rMBP without a touchbar. Does anyone know if it still throttles? I heard the new Kabylake chips are much cooler than the Skylake chips so it no longer throttles.

Pick one.
>>
>>60831456
Who the fuck told you that Kabylake runs cooler?
>>
>>60827880
I don't expect everyone in this thread to be smart but I will ask you this.

You do realize that cooler is not as efficient as Apple wants you to believe it is.

Sure, 2 sides of PCB with hardware on them being continuously cooled by 2 different turbine styled blower fans. That is pretty great.

But imagine having an 18 core running at 4GHz with 128GB of RAM with 4TB of NVMe storage and some single 11 Tflops capable GPU which is AMD.

The coolers will 100% be loud and the 18 core (if used by something like after effects or 3ds MAX) will throttle as low as 2 GHz, calling it.

Apple fucked up. They wanted to be edgy and look like the smart people of the era stuffing workstation grade hardware in a laptop enclosure ecosystem and they don't even know what they're in for. The bloody thing will start throttling like crazy the instant you get a bit of dust inside.

People like MKBHD will get one because they use Apple software but a normal person wouldn't. It's nice, fancy, all in all but it will ultimately not manage properly. Not even in the slightest. I can't wait to see the initial shitfest with Premiere/Finalcut Pro/iMovie crashing like it was their destinies.
>>
>>60831661
Did you even watch the WWDC'17?

Apple said Kabylake MBP with new Speedstep technology is much cooler and more efficient than previous models.

>>60831778
It will be golden.

I bet some people with hard earned cash will spend the top dollar on this iMac Pro and will get the top end version expecting to have that "buttery smooth" experience they've been searching for so long.

Everything will go according to plan, the hardware will deliver and it will be nice. 2 Hours into doing something intensive and the whole Mac is lagging like crazy just to see 9 cores being completely shut down while the other 9 struggle at 3 GHz flat, the GPU being clocked at 25% of the power and the RAM performing sub par. Not to mention the NVMe drives starting to reach Sata 3 speeds. The whole system locking up randomly and starting to fuck up on another level.

Tons of posts will appear stating how bad the iMac throttles and under-performs heavily compared to a proper workstation tower.

Apple will release a High Siera major update and all of a sudden the CPU/GPU start to throttle almost immediately as you start doing something more demanding. Users will realise their 18 core is no more/no less more powerful than a current gen 6900K and the amazing 11TFlops AMD card is as good as an R9 Fury.

I can't fucking wait. It will be so fucking amusing to see all of the posts and people crying endlessly in the comments sections saying how they were ripped off or how they know Apple will somehow pull this trough but... spoiler: Some ugly ass cooler designs will pop up to support the iMac Pro and they will be stupidly loud and almost as useless.

2017-2018 will be the year of TOPPEST KEK for Apple. It will be the best comedy written ever since Intel panic released the Kaby Lake X series.

Because PC manufacturers don't just look at it and consider it efficient, they do rigorous testing beforehand and in case it doesn't "just werk" they approach it differently, unlike Apple.

Also, why the hell are Apple thinking that the iPhone way of doing things should be the general way of doing things?

Who in that company thought it would be a good idea to ditch HDMI/D-Port, ports in favor of TB3? It was a dumb idea. Not everyone is going to get the LG ExtraFine or what the fuck it's called for this.
>>
>>60827915
>Because it's probably bullshit
Apple's the biggest and most powerful tech company in the world. They don't make bullshit.

I think PC companies don't have enough money to spend on cooling engineering.
>>
>>60832063
I think you don't know what you're talking about and you should either:

A. Look at the past to see how good Apple was with almost all the laptops they made (hint: crazy throttling, components not properly functioning like on the new macbook pro where the wifi completely cuts off if you are using 1 TB3 port with necesary power output to the external device)

B. Not talk because not talking is best when you have no idea what you're talking about.
>>

Its okay if you are using a ultra low power cpu, but its never going to work on a 350+Watts enclosure.

Plus, consider the display also generate heat. If they dont proper ventilate the display, or worse, let the heat from the boards reach the display its going to get fucked really soon.

Apple is so full of shit it believe to be able to bend laws of thermodynamics
>>
Wait, current i7 laptops has smaller, shittier, single fan, shit tier vent and you can manage to game on them

This has dual ovary 3 inch fans with ok tier vent. Heat wont be a problem, specially mac users will rarely utilize the resouces 100%.
>>
>>60827880
What's so special about it? It's essentially the same type of cooling that's been used in laptops for years now.
>>
Apple computers almost always fucking throttle unless they have the ultra low voltage CPUs, and even those run at like 90'c.

Apple has always had the shittest cooling to get the lightest gayest fashion designer laptop. Now they make a trash can with compromised cooling. Yeah very revolutionary.

>efficient
That's just two heatpipes over the heated area and a really small, not-so-dense cooling fin packaging. Most tower and even larger flat aircoolers are significantly more efficient at cooling while watercooling is in a different league.
>quiet
Two sub-90mm centrifugal fans working together will still make a high-pitched din. Regular fans of similar sizes can move about 60-100% more air at the same RPM.
I've used blower-cooled aircoolers before, and all of them sounded like vacuum cleaners even on "quiet" settings.
>powerful
You mean "efficient"
You can buy more "powerful" air coolers than that for about $20-30. There is too much heat for two small heatpipes to manage for that design to be effective.
>>
>>60827880
Am I the only one that's going to point out that's not how air works?

if you exhaust your hot air over your room temperature air, your hot air is going back through the system.

Which means it isn't cooing as much as it could and is most likely just getting slightly hotter by the second.

Apple's always ahead of everyone else. PC boxes are always huge and all the PC manufacturers can do is add HUGE-ASS 120/140mm fans. You can't make an aesthetically pleasing case from that.

Apple can put in 18-core CPU + VEGA Graphics in less than 2" of space. That's fucking impressive.
