I'm building a few Ryzen systems soon, but I've been out of the loop. Can anyone give me the rundown on Ryzen and memory before I pull the trigger? How much does memory speed really matter? What's the sweet spot?

/pcbg/
sage all fields
3200MHz memory and r5 1600(if overclocking) or 1600X(if not overclocking)
That's all, thread over.
>>60827826
why 3200 and not higher?
>>60829389
Because higher goes expensive for not all notable gains and Ryzen over a certain RAM frequency(3400MHz) prefers tighter timings than bandwidth.

Buy a motherboard that supports the latest AGESA update. Most RAMs work with it IIRC.

Thanks for the tip

so should I get 3200 or 3400?
>>60830968
3400 and start tightening the timings.
>>60830968
Buy whichever is cheaper. The performance difference is negligible
>>60830985
Thanks, do you happen to have any source on that?

I thought the 1600X would be for overclocking because it requires an aftermarket cooling solution and everything, and the 1600 would be for the casual who wants longevity.
Buying a computer for my parents, please respond.

FOR
YOUR
PARENTS?
Just get a 1500X and a $80 motherboard, cheapest 2600MHz RAM, and be done with it, they won't need anything more for the next 10 years.

The 1500X is $5-$10 cheaper than the 1600. I think 2 cores is worth $5 though.

1500x is not worth it
1400 is 158$
1500x is 175$
1600 is 195$
1600x is 227$
1700 is 299$
1700x is 349$
1800x is 455$
The only value CPUs are the non X ones
>>60831157
1600 then, it's more futureproof.
I thought the price difference was larger.

update your bios
ryzen will work with 4000mhz ram now
>>60831592
but does it make a difference? that's what i care about
>>60831053
get a bentium g4560
