I have a mid-end tower PC and a newish (last model before the touch-yourself-bar) Macbook Pro. I've owned Macs since Tiger, including two polycarb Core 2 Macbooks and two or three Core 2 Mac Minis.

Apple went to shit after Jobs died. Mac OS has gone downhill since Snow Leopard, and their hardware has become more and more terrible to deal with. I could strip a Mac Mini down to the bones and replace the WiFi card, hard drive, RAM, etc. I can't even replace the fucking battery on my new Macbook Pro.

Windows has also gone to shit, but using the last good version of Windows (7) is a lot more reasonable than using the last good version of OSX (Snow Leopard).

People who are able to use Gentoo on a daily basis and who don't despise gayish very nature of Apple are using Macbooks, for example Linus Torvalds.

The question isn't about money, the question is about efficiency of the money spent on a hardware. What the point to buy an expensive laptop if you can buy cheaper and better regardless to the volume of your pocket.

Every Apple user I've ever met was either a complete bumbling retard, or a sysadmin with a lot of experience. The only people I see trashing Apple regularly are video-game playing /v/edditors who obsess over frame rates and Linux autists who hate intellectual property rights.

That isn't to say there aren't legitimate criticisms of Apple, like the iPhone 7's lack of headphone jack or the stupid touchbar on the MBP or completely destroying the Mac Pro's modularity, but honestly their hardware and software generally work quite well together. If you want commercially supported UNIX that actually works for regular desktop use they're basically your only choice.
>>
>>60823978
The first type of users you've met are more active and they're creating the image of a typical Apple user. 4chan and the comments in here are a case in point.

the most legitimate criticism of apple is there ethics in treatment of workforce and consumers
the system is locked down.
jailbreaking is illegal in some places.
apple products and software works exclusively with other apple things.
this would be fine if they didn't bother porting, but they actively lock their systems down when it comes to crossplatform usability.
apple still has suicide prevention nets in their factories (as of 2016)

If you are on /g/, a technology board, you do not have the right to bitch about android or claim iDevices are better, which they aren't.
You see, any technologically inclined person will obviously use android. It gives better performance, for lower price and most of all it is customizable to the extent iDevices cannot match, which is exactly why we prefer Android phones. You can root them, play around with their internals and just use them to do whatever you want to.

As both an iPhone and Android user the speed difference between the fastest phones is really 6 of one and half dozen of the other. iPhone does better in canned benchmarks but in real world use there is little to no difference. That said, Android is much more capable in what it can actually do. There is also a lot more choice in form factor, user interface, price point, etc. Android has Clover and, hell, something as simple as editing a text file in Dropbox is trivial on Android but impossible on iPhone. I mean, what the fuck is that shit. In short, they both are good but Android is admittedly a bit better.

Maybe if you load the SMS app. Try loading a game or do anything that requires time, anything that has a percentage and requires you to wait a few seconds. iPhone will get it done like 2-3 times faster due to high grade internal storage and that uncomparable CPU.

Also, despite the lower RAM, it does a good job of keeping apps in memory. I agree with file moving, I have an android too for this reason.

In the last Apple event they talked about their OSes using machine learning to analyze your usage and optimize your apps/OS and make suggestions.
Like the photo recognition thing or the omnipresent Siri integration.

Wouldn't that be a privacy issue like the Cortana stuff is on Windows?

I mean, as I understand it, Apple is basically looking over your shoulder every time you use iOS or macOS, and they even look inside your pictures.
Why isn't everyone butthurt about this like when MS did it?

Am I missing something?
>>
Safari is much better than chrome. It renders all the websites properly, uses much less battery and IT DOES HAVE ADBLOCK U FKS
>>
>>60834873
apple users are inherently stupid and cannot bother to know how this literally an attack on their privacy.

they are all fucking hipsters who don't understand technology.
>>
>>60834873
Apple doesn't optimise the apps/OS, it bloats them with the frills, bells and whistles instead. Apple is a hardware company their primary goal is to sell next generations of their hardware.

For a counterexample, Google and Facebook are data mining companies, their main goal is to spread their services as wide as possible to collect information and show advertisement. Google is more interested in optimising the OS.
>>

Sorry if I didn't explain myself correctly. English isn't my native language.

>Safari is much better than chrome.
I don't know about that. Chrome on my Galaxy 5S renders is pretty much the same as Safari on my iPhone 6 except it renders sites a bit faster and actually plays webm's. This is the same when comparing my Nexus 9 and my iPad Mini 2.
>>60834556
True my iPhone 6 can start apps a little bit faster than my Galaxy S5 but that's where the speed difference ends. I'm actually a bit suspicious of this as my iPhone has a lot of pointless animations and you can't interact with an app immediately as you are just seeing a screenshot. The apps run about equally as fast on both platforms. The difference is my Galaxy S5 can do so much more and I can install anything I want on it. That's worth giving up a few milliseconds on startup times.
>>60835263
>VLC on iPhone
Yeah, this works but it's janky and involves waiting for VLC to open, switching back and forth, etc. On Android, it just works in the browser (or clover). Much better user experience.

More like all other OSes hide the scary complicated stuff to avoid scaring away the users who essentially know nothing about their machines. Anything complex hidden and disguised as easy to use ends up being even more complex and hard to use
Linux on the other hand accepts that it's complex and doesn't attempt to hide all the internals, instead it offers itself to the user to handle.

Also, even if it didn't, you'd still have to trust their word for it.
If we don't trust Microsoft, why should we hold Apple to a higher standard of trustworthiness?

Well Apple doesn't have anything remotely close to Google/Microsoft/Amazon database search engine index servers that allows them to build a profile on you regardless of what device or software you use. Anytime you use Google/Amazon/Microsoft's products they can filter what you like, and more accurately.

Voice assistant is a botnet, but not at the same level.
>>
>>60835885
How do you know they don't?
They talked about having the OS analyze your usage to see what you like doing with it, so that it can "personalize your user experience", and it's synced across all your devices.
Isn't this exactly what "building a profile on you" is?

No it's not. HP released a workstation AIO years ago. It was even fully aftermarket upgradeable as there was a display hinge you could lift to reveal the socketed CPU and swappable storage, RAM and even MXM GPU.

There are. But the imacs are good as long as they aren't overpriced.

But currently they are compared to the performance.

That might change with the imacs Pro but again. You are paying the Intel fee for their shitty cpus.

If Apple had gone for amd cpus. It would have been perfect.

>I can't even replace the fucking battery on my new Macbook Pro.

The entire point of being an Applefag is that they can chink you into spending tons of to replace the entire laptop / phone every few years because you're an incompetent shitwit.

If you're worrying about replacing parts that go bad after a long time, you're actively making Apple's business model not work. They will fight tooth and nail to make your consumer experience a complete shitfest until you just buy a new one every year like all the other social signalling Mom's Credit Card hipsters.

Yeah, that totally explains why AppleCare for Macs now covers accidental damage and only went up in price ~$20 as a result. Because all they want is to Jew you into a new computer.

>>60838839

>them not supporting their OS being installed on other computers

I mean, they make the hardware and the software, it makes sense to only guarantee compatibility with their own hardware. And, while it’s true that they don’t help you run MacOS on non-Apple computers, they also look the other way as a rule. Imagine if they behaved like Nintendo.

>I can see why tho

I had a $1000+ Windows laptop before my MacBook, and I had a very nice gaming PC before my iMac. Neither provided as pleasant and turn-key of a computing experience as the Macs did.

>>60838154

Uh huh. How enormous/hideous was it, and how much did it cost?

>>60835473

So Linux, upon installation, just starts spitting binary code at you?

What’s that? It doesn’t? Why would that be?

I’ll tell you why: because abstracting away unnecessary complexity in a computing interface is a desirable thing.

>>60835396

>thinking eGPUs won’t be popular because they’re more expensive

And what are laptops again? More expensive than their desktop counterparts, while at the same time offering less performance. Laptops are the most popular form factor for PCs today, and that’s because of the convenience. Don’t count eGPUs out just yet.

>>60835316

I haven’t needed to repair mine anyway. I’ve had my MacBook Air – remember, Apple’s cheapest laptop – for four years now without a single hardware-related issue. It’s not feeling slow or obsolete, either, even 4-5 major OS releases later. When my iMac developed display issues, I took it to the Apple Store and got it repaired within 24 hours, for free, under warranty, and haven’t had a problem since.

>>60833627

Yeah, I can safely say that every game I’ve ever seen runs better in general on iOS.
