Depends on what you mean by similar, there are not many current swiss 45mm divers. It would be considered garish to have a swiss that is very similar to that watch. You can get an Omega 40mm for $2000 though, I would say what you are doing is like posting a corvette and then asking what similar offerings are put out by Lamborghini and Ferrari... there are not any really they are on a different level

It might be the equivalent of something like a nice steinheart but it's not the equivalent of a rolly

It's mass produced in a factory and sells for $900; that's about what it is worth

Which one?

Just checked; the seamaster with bezel is around 5k.
And I always heard that even SARBs put Omegas to shame in the finishing dept.

So looking at the quality of the watch, would that Seiko Transocean be about the equivalent of an Omega seamaster?

no, not even close, not even on the same level

Is a honda accord on the same level as a BMW 7 series? i mean they are both 4 door cars....
>>
>>60822371
The seamaster has a better movement and is finished better than the transocean. The transocean is using a 100 dollar movement. I don't get how they charge 1000 dollars for it.
>>

>>
>>60822401
The movement is certianly better, but I wouldn't necessarily assume that the case, dial, hands and bracelet finishing is better. As I've said many times on these threads, the case/dial/hands/bracelet finishing on a $4,000 Acqua Terra are noticeably inferior to my $600 Seiko Brightz.
>>
>>60822401
eh, it's sapphire, it's got a nice case, it's depth rated, it's got a nice bracelet and that's retail new, that's about right

The SKX007 is 200$ and uses a 20$ movement
>>
>>60822415
No, he is getting the SARB confused with the Brightz line or SARX033/035 which literally do have better case/dial/hands/bracelet finishing than most of Omega's range.
>>
>>60822371

Please understand that there is one guy who spends a lot of time on these threads that has a massive hardon for Omega and gets really mad when people point out how overpriced they are.

I own a Seiko Brightz, a Rolex Datejust, and I've handled quite a few fairly expensive watches in person over the years. Omegas are generally extremely overpriced for the level of finishing you get. If you don't believe me go examine a few up close and personal at an authorized dealer and then compare them to what Tudor sells for similar money and see how big the difference is.

>>
>>60822528
Regardless this guys mass produced 45mm mall watch seiko with a $99 movement is not on par with any of those
>>
>>60822499
Also, to be fair note that I only mention dial/case/hands and bracelet finishing and not movement. While I believe Omega's movements are not nearly up to the standards of an in-house Tudor, they are certainly massively better than the movements in any non GS Seiko.
>>
>>60822545

>>
>>60822573
It's a srs question, I haven't seen one irl.
>>
>>60822563
I haven't handled a Transocean up close, but I own a Seiko SDGM003 and have handled a few Aqua Terra models up close and the case/dial/bracelet finishing on the ATs was a fucking JOKE. It was absolutely pathetic on a $4,000 watch.
>>
>>60822563
Good thing he's talking about well-done $600 sekios instead of $99 mall watches.
>>
>>60822585
I said movement, the movement (guts) of the watch he is talking about is mas produced and $99

An Omega Seamaster movement is $800-$1000
>>
>>60822545
The Pelagos has an excellent functional tool watch design. It's practically a Sinn-esque level of functional design. I like that.
>>

>>

>>
>>60822610
>My bad, you're just plain wrong then. Sorry for humoring you accidentally.

Explain to me what I am wrong about, does the seiko not have a $99 movement or is retail on a new Omega Seamaster movement not 800-1000dollars?
>>
>>60822597
Yes the Omega movement is a lot better and more expensive (though I think $800 is a bit much), but that doesn't excuse the pathetic dial/hands/case/bracelet finishing on the rest of the watch. Not to mention that a bog standard ETA 2892-A2 Chronometer grade would be better in every way than the co-axial movements they use.

>>
>>60822635
I didn't disagree with you on that. In fact I specifically noted so here >>60822567
and here >>60822624.

But no matter how much better the movement is than a 6r15, that doesn't excuse the rest of the watch being so cheaply made. The case/dial/hands and bracelet are an absolute joke at the prices Omega charges. I wouldn't even LOOK at one compared to an in-house Tudor at a similar price because the Tudor will have a much better movement and MILES better case/dial/bracelet finishing.

>>
>>60822716
You have a beef with Omega vs. Rolex and Tudor etc...

this has nothing to do with a mass produced seiko being on par with any of these watches when any of these watches have movements worth more than the MSRP of the entire seiko we are talking about

I personally would also rather have a tudor than an omega but that's neither here nor there
>>
>>60822731
>Omegas aren't mass produced
>>
/Mens Jewellery General/
>>
>>60822731
You misunderstand the order in which these things occurred.

I have a beef with Omega because I own a Seiko Brightz and went to go look at some Aqua Terra's at an AD because I liked the blue textured dial one and I was frankly shocked at how poorly made the non-movement parts of the watch were. I am not engaging in hyperbole when I say the case/dial/bracelet finishing on the Seiko Brightz puts the AT to shame. I saw it for myself up close. Note AGAIN I said the case/dial/bracelet, not the movement, where I agree the Omega is on another planet.

Anyway, I've subsequently handled some Tudor's up close and they ALSO have dramatically better case/dial/bracelet finishing than the Omegas but now also have a better movement at a similar pricepoint. I was not aware of this until well after having discovered for myself that Omega finishes a $4,000 Aqua Terra so poorly.

The finishing on the Seiko puts the rolex TO SHAME, and some rolexes even leave off the date when they are feeling lazy. Have you ever seen the faded lume on an older rolex SAD, they call corrosion "patina" and pay more for it SAD

the SKX is the better watch you should treat yourself to one I handled it next to a rolex and the rubber bracelet was far more comfortable and well made than the stupid Rolex metal hair puller.

You don't even have 50 lines of text on the seiko because it does not need to tell you how good it is, too much bragging, SAD

So what's your opinion of Omega?
>>
>>60824526
The co-axial is an expensive failure they can never back out of (mainly due to years of marketing shilling about its superiority), and Omega are operating at maximum judaism.

Their quartz movements are still pretty nice though, too bad they're just overpriced, decorated ETA.

>>
>>60825158
How so? Seems to look good on paper.
>>
>>60825199
We should have the article on why co-axial stinks in the OP.
>>
>>60825160
I wouldn't go so far as to call it garbage, but Omega's implementation of the co-axial escapement design is emblematic of everything that is wrong with post-Swatch takeover Omega.

Basically, in theory, the co-axial escapement was supposed to not need lubrication and thus allow the extension of service intervals on movements. The reality turned out that when you tried to implement Daniels' co-axial design on a production scale that it ended up being extremely delicate and having all sorts of QC issues.

So Omega ended up reducing the beat rate of their co-axial movements to reduce drive-line stress and then began using microscopically precise amounts of lubricant on the co-axial escapement for cushioning rather than lubrication.

Unfortunately this meant that Omega's co-axial movements were now MORE delicate and MORE hostage to prompt, regular servicing as well as being MUCH harder to service correctly without damaging any components than Omega's movements had been before the co-axial experiment had started.

Essentially 100% of any performance gains on an Omega 8500 vs an ETA 2892-A2 come from the switch to a balance bridge and a free sprung balance (i.e. copying Rolex) while the co-axial escapement has made the movement WORSE in every meaningful respect than a traditional Swiss lever escapement would have.

And yet, Omega refused to abandon co-axial even though it's a complete counter productive meme on production movements because of MUH MARKETING and fuck the customers who get literal ticking time bomb movements as a result.

He needs a watch, but always cheaps out, to make some savings to help me and my brother to study.

He does this for every good thing in life (no restaurants, no vacations, no nice clothes, etc.).

Now I got my first job, and I was thinking buying him the tickets to come see me in the city I'm working, and mailing him the tickets+the watch as a surprise.

Anyway, the only reason I'm considering this, is because it has the 4R36 movement in a 200m resistant case, for 100$.

No wrist shots yet, I've been trying to find the right band. I tend to over-think this kind of thing a lot, it took me weeks to find a band I liked for my F-91W. >>
>>60832893
Rehaut looks fucked.
>>
>>60834862
Yeah, more I look the ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX rehaut with what looks to be very poor engraving gives it away. Compare that sloppy job to the crisp engraving on legit models. Maybe it's just the photos you took, but it looks bad.

The real rehaut is not really noticeable when the watch is worn unless you're specifically looking for it, whereas this looks like it would still stick out like a sore thumb whenever you looked at the dial.

Another method to tell a fake is the little coronet in the crystal; not on the crystal, but it's supposed to be IN. With fakes it is immediately noticeable to the unaided, naked eye if you're looking for it at the 6 o'clock position, the real ones are basically invisible andhave to use a flashlight to help you out, shining it laterally up the crystal to illuminate the bubbles embedded within the crystal itself.

Fakers aren't going to go through the trouble (or just can't coz tech) of doing the multilayered bubble thing that goes through the width of the crystal; they're just going to etch the coronet in a surface layer, and it's super obvious unlike the real ones. That at least would help you tell whether or not the crystal at least is real or fake.

I believe the fakers have started either hiding the coronet at other positions besides 6, or just not etching it at all because it's too much of a giveaway. Though, on the legit models rolex sometimes places the crystal in "wrong" and the coronet is not in it's customary position at the bottom of the dial.

Yeah, but NATO strap soak up fluids and I'm working in emergency medicine. I need a work strap. I'll probably get a NATO strap to dress it up, I was thinking a three-stripe navy-white-navy strap.

Yes, especially useful towards the poles where it's hard to tell AM from PM at certain times of the year.

Ah in that case a rubber strap is probably your best option. Also a nato won't exactly 'dress it up' a perlon would be better for that job.

>>60836827
If you're already willing to spend that much, just save for a real one.

Got a diver with steel/silver band and I need to adjust it ... is it rocket science? I don't have any tools here. Should I bring it to a watch guy to do it for me or do it myself?
>>
>>60837229
I hadn't thought of perlon, that might be nice.
>>
>>60837517
It's not rocket science. If you're really worried about it, take it to your watch guy, else you should be able to watch a YouTube video or two and improvise the tools.

I ordered an Orient Mako ii and I'm just surprised at how small it looks on my wrist

It seemed to be much bigger from pics. online... is it just that pictures make things look bigger or that most people are wristlets?

Should be between $10-$20 unless you've got something super fancy that people are afraid to touch.

The printing on the dial also looks off. Rolex prints shit to literal perfection, that dial looks almost "low res" in it's font.

What's the circumference of your wrist? A Mako is not a small watch at all.

Fakes can be scary close.
I've been mulling over RO's but since the only models that interest me are discontinued, I've had to do some research concerning the kinds of fuckery that one can come across in the AP world. Guy on one of those rep forums had both a real and a fake RO 15400, and to the untrained eye, say if it was on the wrist, there was little visual difference in that there were not instant giveaways like the rehaut on that rolex.

Turn it over and look at the movement and it's fucking done, of course. But overall, with visually convincing fakes it comes down to quality of feeling; the fake AP had a shitty (by comparison) bracelet, and the dial didn't look as nice.

In isolation, on the wrist in passing without a real one to compare it to, the fake would suffice to achieve the fake-wearer's goal of fooling people into thinking that they were wearing a very expensive watch.

It's hilarious, that if you're not the kind that could pull this off in the first place - if you're not someone who could feasibly afford such luxury items and looked the part to people around you (who you so desperately want to impress) anyway - then you will look like another tryhard with a fake watch.

That question is heard so often for a reason:
>"is that a REAL rolex?"
An entry level OP or budget vintage airking or whatever is one thing, but when people start wearing gmt masters and the like who otherwise don't look the part (dress like shit, have no class or bearing etc.,) it looks retarded. It's not a given, but it makes less sense for someone to be wearing a $9000 piece of deprecated tech cum jewelry and not look the part. It's suspicious.

I see rolex everywhere as it's a base standard so I don't really scrutinise. It's when I see a nautilus, aquanaut or RO that I get suspicious if the rest of the getup doesn't add up.

That being said I was on an escalator with some old fart in shorts, t-shirt and baseball cap who was wearing a gold aquanaut. Dressed like shit, but he wandered into a vertu (lmao) store to what I assume was his family and they were buying something.

But this is Asia. Watches are important totems to signify status; wearing work out sweatpants and what looks like a freebie t-shirt whilst you rock a $50,000 psuedo sports watch is a common enough sight: rich people on holiday, wearing comfycore with a little king's ransom on their wrist.

Oh, I see arabs too with this getup, and they universally dress and act like shit. They don't have to dress to impress, they dress for comfort.

I've mentioned once about a sight I'll never forget: a fat arab cald in a salmon pink velour tracksuit, hightop ricks, and a gold ROO you could see from the moon. Man gave no shits. But in his case IT WAS CONVINCING due to several factors.

When I see some weedy, nervous looking white kid (anywhere in the world) sporting some shit that's low in plausibility, then it probably sus. When I was at university I noticed a couple of guys like this. Most were honest enough to admit
>"uh,ah i-i-it's a fake haha"
when I approached them to talk watches, one didn't though, which was a joke considering patek never made a model like the one I saw. Whatever. Drop the conversation and move on.

I knew a kid in my residential college that was a richcunt or had a sugardaddy or something and was a real namebrand whore so when he started sporting the blue omega wavy dial bond semenmaster it wasn't questionable (they were still in production then) to me. He knew nothing of watches though and considered he Baume et Mercier chrono to be some kind of masterpiece.

Anyway, TL;DR i can't remember my point with this but I think it's something to do with my puzzlement over guys, who are so unconvincing, wanting a fake luxury timepiece. I mean, have a little self-awareness.

I don't know if the filename is correct, but look up the citizen "chronomaster"; models are "The Citizen".

It's their top of the line ordinary shit (ie. not fancy campanola complicated eco-drives). The Citizen used to just be a fancy quartz module, thermocompensated etc., and was actually nicer and more accurate than the GS quartz from what I remember.

I recall the datechange being better on the Citizens. Now they have eco-drives and have recently introduced mechanicals. Japan only though, so it's domestic seller dealings and warranties have to go through them.

They're a bit "me too" compared with GS though. Nice to see the effort, especially now with Royal Orient being consigned to the dustbin of horological history.
