Yeesh.

Windows looks good minimalistic. It looks good with the new menus. It would be nice if Microsoft didn't jam this mess down new, unifying users throatss and build something that was clean and cohesive.

Clearly they don't need to though because this makes them money.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I really don't follow Microsoft that much when it comes to design. They spent lots of human talent hours into creating the whole Metro UI, and it took them years, and years of development to actually bring it forth in a functional manner for desktops. (Someone can argue that things as-is are far from perfect even)

So why do they bog down their own brand new, fresh interface with crap?

Let's recap:

>functions and services are opt-out - check
>you're never actually opted out - check
>dozen of app permissions with system apps having irrevocable access - check
>data collection for advertisement purposes - check
>third-party advertisements - check
>whoring out to third-parties and forcing their apps on users - check
>you paid your money once yet they continue to sell your data - check

I'm afraid not even LTSB version is a real desktop OS at this point.

it is like they want to destroy the desktop forever
instead of thinking: 'leave the desktop alone, people need a space to work/read/do something useful' they go like 'we need to bring mobile into the desktop, so let's add ads, notifications, people...'

THIS TIMELINE IS TRASH
>>

they just want the ad cash from mobile platforms, and that includes:
>data mining to sell to ad companies
>ads on the interface
>mobile store cut from purchases and publishing
and what is the best way to make your platform an addictive mess? social and notifications

Microsoft is too afraid of mobile, when in reality people WORK on Office every single day. it is like they can't figure out they already had the most used platform in the market

Microsoft trying to become Google, while Google tries to be Facebook, and Facebook still amazed at how gulible are their users, and advertisers

Of course there is a lot of clutter when you have the action center open with a lot of notifications (which was the point of the screenshot, showing the notifications now organized by app) and 4 applications open. Search bar open instead of collapsing it into an icon is inexcusable though.

>>
>>60831363
So? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I wish Microsoft understood that. Ever since 7, the explorer is buggy. You have to press enter several times for a file to save, or click several times into a sub-folder in the address bar drop downs to actually navigate to it. I'm using XP right now, hadn't used it in a while. It's so satisfying, it does what it's told to.
