Most people in japan don't even own a computer.
A PC is something only professionals and nerds bother with.

Their entire PC enthusiast market is aimed at anime otaku for this reason.

Did they ever release a patch for the PC version? Japanese software devs are utter garbage. Needed to have a bunch of modders fix their fucking game. Only saving grace were the qts.

programming is not popular in general.if you are asking why there are not a lot of programmers its because they have a small population to begin with.also programming languages are in english.op you are retarded now that you have your answer kindly leave and never return.
>>
You know, I never even thought of the fact that other languages besides english exist while programming
Do they have to type in english or have they made their own versions of programming languages to work with?
>>
>>60811863
programming transcends the language border.

how so?if you are not using a high level language like java or c# you cant use the utf-8 character set in your language which means in programming languages like c and c++ you can only use the characters of the english alphabet or your program will not compile.keywords are also in english, just like most tutorials in the world.so i ask again how does programming transcends the language border?

This was something that really surprised me when I went on secondment to Japan for a year. Of the eight people on my team, there were only two who owned a computer of their own: me (the gaijin) and this other dude who was seen as a bit of a social outcast in the company. Everyone else just used the company laptops whenever they needed access to a computer. The first time one of my coworkers came to visit my flat, he thought my Thinkpad belonged to the company ("I am surprised we still have one of those old models"). Most of the people I've worked with have told me that they didn't ever really use computers on a regular basis (or at all) until university. One girl told me her school had a calculator club where they practised getting faster on a standard calculator, rather than learning how to input shit in Excel. But since so much of what we dealt with is still on paper, it is actually sort of a valuable skill. Weird.

From what I saw, Japan is in many ways still trapped in 1993. Did I mention most people also still use fax machines?

Neither C# nor Java handle strings internally as utf-8.
Both C and C++ can work with utf-8 just fine.

True professionals just use English. Most code is written in romanji with hiragana reserved for comments if it's for international release, hiragana all the way for Japan only release. The Nip equivalents of Pajeets may use katakana or even kanji in their code, which is a nightmare if they cross the beams because variables don't care if the words mean the same thing if the symbols used are different.

Dialects, pronunciation and slang all are natural evolutions of language.

Written language is deliberately created. You have to consciously decide what alphabet to use, and they chose 4.

>>60811332
Programmers are banks programming in COBOL or Java, it is not considered a serious profession, but over time was made valued the old programmers in those sectors, for the whole electronic industry is expected that the engineer know c, assembler or matlab, for Example for web pages are seen as of the last decade, are many rookies using the same style for 20 years, the few programmers are in the faculties of the best universities (know functional languages, algorithms and data structures, computer science Are of the best and are very aware of what is done in the West), are the ones that run the giants like Nintendo, Sony or more video game studios, taking many young people as apprentices who follow their orders, other of these programmers are In large infrastructure companies.

The big gap that now want to close is to bring better software to web pages and mobile applications, companies like Dena in addition to taking the best to program mobile applications, want to push to have more programmers.

In one part the best are like the first world, the mediocre are worse than the pajeets.
>>
>>60811332

It is the just right amount of abstraction to not be overly tedious.

back in the 80s and 90s computers had a hard time with the japanese language making them sort of useless for the average jap, they're also associated with otaku which makes it something of a social faux pas to own one. so japan is decades behind the west when it comes to computer literacy. 30% of japanese teenagers use computers/laptops, compared to 98% of teenagers in the US or UK
>>
>>60812011
Fucking weird. But what is the direction, are personal computers becoming even less popular there or is it becoming more popular?
BTW I think west is pretty obsessed with developers right now. I feel like programming, startups, culture surrounding them is being even fetisized.

Kanji = Ripoff of Chinese, old as fuck
Katakana = Specifically for writing Latin root words
Hiragana = Phonetic Japanese
Romanji = Non-rune depiction of hiragana and katakana

i was under the impression that 100% of japanese people were programmers

But most of that land is shit, so everybody lives in the habitable parts, like Canada, Australia or Russia.
>>
>>60811863
I'm not familiar with C but couldn't you just make a function that takes references as arguments and print the sum of both in float or something?
>>
>>60812240
>Why the fuck do they have four ways of writing their language? I get using normal letters or runes but why so many runes?

Kanji was imported from China, then two different syllabaries devloped that found different social niches. I believe they are often used from writing the grammatical particles. Then Romanji was imported during Meiji Restoration.

So it just tradition, just like why English (and to lesser extent, French) spelling is a godawful nightmare. Too bad they didn't follow Korea's move towards a single syllabary.
