Will Kotlin replace Java?
No.
Fast enough is a thing.
Kotlin is literally just a layer over Java.
pretty nice but pretty pointless
Lambdas, Optionals, and Streams made Java 8 good enough

it is dependent on java

Wrong.
For desktop applications, Kotlin only uses Java's Virtual Machine. Java (the programming language) is not used.
Kotlin can also be compiled into JavaScript, and some effort has been made to help compile Kotlin into native applications.

Definitely improved Java, but it still has a lot of boilerplate code.
I'm pretty optimistic about Kotlin (I'm using it right now), and I hope it has a successful future.

>Java (the programming language)
Who cares. I was talking about Java Platform.
>Kotlin can also be compiled into JavaScript, and some effort has been made to help compile Kotlin into native applications.
Main usecases for Kotlin are backends and Android applications. JS and native are only marginally relevant.

>Kotlin can also be compiled into JavaScript
all that effort wasted on moving from a meh-tier platform to a shit-tier one...
>>60802600
they'll need to come up with a less shitty logo if they want to stand a chance.
>>60802600
we'll file this one in the 'what the fuck are these niggers doing" basket, right alongside groovy and scala

> JS and native are only marginally relevant
They're only marginally relevant because they're really new to Kotlin. Of course it will take time for people to transition to using it.

So you still want front-end developers using JavaScript?
well, if kotlin just compiles to jvm bytecode, then it's not faster than java. unless it has a shitton of really great features, people won't care. secretely no one wants to learn a new language if they know the one they work with well.

No.
