Is i3wm a overhyped meme?

As an dynamic tiling wm, it's perfectly good.
I don't really understand why it's seemingly so much more popular than any of the others though, maybe i3 users are just very loud, like Arch users.

I like it on Laptops, on PC's i prefer Gnome

not at all. it works well as a tiling wm if thats your thing, and super easy to configure.
