I mean, what's the real difference between an amd and an nvidia? Should I buy the cheaper one?

Pick whatever is within your budget then ask in /pcbg/ if it's worth buying.
If it's cheaper while delivering the same/better performance, yes. AMD used to have terrible drivers (software) a few years back, but they're at least as good as nvidia these days. Honestly your question isn't a very good, specific one and does not warrant a thread. Use the stupid questions thread next time.

AMD/ATI has a bad history of shit drivers, poor warranty support and bad customer service. I wouldn't personally buy one even if they have changed.

Buy the one that isn't sold out
aka nvidia

There is no true visual difference. Most games run well on the mid-upper range cards like the GTX 1060 and RX 480. These cards will run high settings/ 60 fps 1080p in everything that is out now. ULTRA MAX settings see severe diminishing returns to the point of being meme status most of the time.
