anything else is piece of shit bloatware. was using win7 until a couple of months ago when microsoft decided to hinder the updates. couldn't deal with it and updated to win10 ltsb. recommend the same thing to anyone else who cannot deal with this shitty "app/metro" trend.

also don't forget to harden it, because even ltsb has shit ton of telemetry stuff in it.

I always wondered about that myself. Why not keep the old UI as an option instead of fragging it completely? desu under the hood windows 8 is great - better than windows 10 maybe even. it's really fast and responsive and works well on old systems (compared to the bloatware in vista/7 with .net 3.5 and updates). but 8's UI is nearly unusable (and an eye sore).

They should just put out windows 11, do whatever they want under the hood, and let the user pick amongst a choice of UIs (classic, luna, aero, metro, or whatever they can think of)

it's unfortunate the younger generation doesn't know about windows 2000's lean and efficient design. it was much more nimble than XP (which was really bloated for many years until SP3 fixed the shit under the hood and finally made it fast)

It became a big buggy bloated mess of patched together shit that Microsoft is constantly reskinning and adding more Candy Crush apps to. It also spies on you now. It hasn't been usable since 98SE or 2000 in terms of stability, drivers, and updates not fucking the whole system beyond recovery. The only people that like Winshit are the ones that don't know any better or use it for muh gayems.

Control. MS has been removing user control over Windows ever since Windows 95. It more or less started with forced IE integration. Today we have a bunch of settings that can't be disabled, or if they can be disabled they will automatically re-enable after a set time. Of course it's all in the name of protecting the user.
