The underpowered overpriced "high end" hardware meme (see also MacBook and Dell XPS 2-in-1) is quite useful - no one is going to want their $1000-2000 device to be useless any time soon, so it holds the software vendors back from bloating as heavily as they used to do (I was sure they were in cahoots with hardware manufacturers until recently, i.e. making software more demanding to help them sell new hardware), making the more decent hardware good for like 7-10 years instead of the 4-5 it was before.
