Hi guys, I hope i'm in the right topic; I'm a photographer in South America covering different types of struggles like workers strikes and housing demands.
The thing is, recently I've started noticing some weird functioning in my phone, phonecalls that hang when answering, or nobody talks for secs then hang... shit like that... also, police here is enforcing prosecution and harassment on people involved in social struggles, such is the case of a 15 yo girl followed by undercover police.
More than me, I'm worried about the photos containing important material to workers and social movements, and the information they give me to document their actions...
so this is what I would like to know about:
# how can I know y my phone is being tracked?
# can they actually be reading my messages while im writing or minutes after?
# is there a realy secure app to chat?
# what kind of stuff on internet security should I bee looking to study and know more about to enforce my security and those around me?

>Being tracked
Nothing needs to happen to your phone for it to be tracked, so there's no way of you to really know. There are purely external systems which allow the government to spoof towers etc to track your location at all times. Always assume you're being tracked, leave your phone behind of you're going somewhere you want to protect

Depends if your phone has been compromised. If so, yes.

Every leak that comes out still lists the whisper systems stuff as secure, so signal would be your best bet. That said, secure transmission is useless if there's an exploit accessing the info in plain text locally

You should always assume you're being watched or tracked. Make backups, preferably encrypted, and never use cloud shit. They can and will subpoena companies to help them. Assuming you're a fellow Chilean, there was a case where MS helped the police catch a guy with CP on his computer a year or so ago. So you can assume that Windows is insecure, as well.
Most importantly - even the most secure messaging program still depends on the human element. People are fucking stupid and all it takes is someone being careless and not deleting stuff/leaving it unlocked for someone to get easy access. It's like that whatsapp group those politicians up north had where because of one stupid fucker not securing his shit, the press published all their confidential messages.
